William and Kate’s popularity more about ‘personality’ than ‘position’

A new photograph has emerged of the Princess of Wales sipping on a cocktail as she attended a 24-hour music festival.

Catherine partied with thousands of other revellers at the Houghton Festival, her first ever music festival, which was held on the lavish Norfolk estate owned by her aristocratic friends.

A photograph was shared on Twitter of the Princess of Wales looking casual and relaxed as she chatted with a group at the gathering in what appeared to be a marquee.

The effortlessly chic Catherine wore a pair of black jeans, a black off-the-shoulder top and her white and gold Veja sneakers.

She also wore her statement gold and black Sezane earrings, last seen at Royal Ascot in June.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the rave was the first music festival that the 41-year-old Princess had ever attended.

The surprise outing came while the Princess was having dinner with her Norfolk neighbours, the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, David and Rose, at their home, Houghton Hall.

One of the guests suggested they go to Houghton Festival, the 24-hour event that takes place annually within the stately home’s expansive grounds.

The Sun reports that Catherine was initially “nervous” to go but after consultation with her protection officers she decided to attend.

The Hanburys are part of Prince William and Catherine’s aristocratic circle of friends, which has been dubbed the “Turnip Toffs” as the area of Norfolk is famous for growing turnips.

The Houghton Festival was first launched in 2017 by prominent DJ Craig Richards as a bid to bring the thumping music of London’s nightclubs to the English countryside.

It ran over four days, ending on Sunday, and featured more than 200 artists performing across 13 stages.

The event, pitched as a celebration of art and music in the Norfolk countryside, attracted around 10,000 fans with its line-up of world-class DJs.

Catherine’s rave outing comes just weeks after Prince William was seen dancing at a nightclub to celebrate his 41st birthday.

The Prince of Wales was seen partying at London nightclub KOKO in a private booth with some male pals, including his bestie Guy Pelly, who is Prince Louis’ godfather.

It was a boys’ night out for the future monarch, who headed to the club without Catherine after the pair attended Royal Ascot earlier in the day.
