GPD is the cosy, cheery, open-doored eatery we want for every neighbourhood. simple, generous food you could happily eat several times a week and a compact menu that changes often, sometimes daily, to keep things interesting and seasonal. There'll always be a handful of great salads, a comforting roast chook, a braise of some kind and possibly the dreamy signature honey and rosemary panna cotta. Spencer Gulf squid is paired with rich aioli and crisp-fried parsley. Shaved fennel is a bright foundation for a salad with gorgonzola, black figs and walnuts, every element in its prime. Burnished roast chicken makes a gutsily gorgeous dish with heirloom tomatoes and torn, fried sourdough chunks. Chocolate tart is a solid slab of mirror-finished ganache, scattered cashew praline adding salty crunch, the accompanying floury caramel ice-cream the only disappointment. Warm, informed service keeps the neighbourhood very happy indeed.
