THE 14 STATS THAT JUMPED OUT

- The Cats have kicked more behinds than any side in the competition, which puts Melbourne’s kick-ins at a premium. Enter Steven May, who has been doing most of the heavy lifting in that area for the Demons. In round 15, he took eight kick-ins which boosted him to 22 disposals. If the Cats are wayward, 20+ disposals becomes a huge chance. 15+ should be a lock. Both are still a good price. Update - May had 26 disposals.

- Geelong’s Tom Atkins is getting some love in the guts. The hard nut attended two centre bounces in the opening nine rounds of the season. In his past four games he has attended 81! That is a massive jump. Not surprisingly, the disposal numbers have also jumped, with three of his last four games hitting the 20+ mark. Update - Atkins has 21 disposals.

- Collingwood’s backline will look very different this week without Darcy Moore on deck. Moore is clearly the Pies’ leader for kick-ins taken, which opens the door for Nick Daicos to cash in. Daicos took six kick-ins against the Suns and given his natural ball-winning ability, 25+ disposals and 30+ disposals are both in play.

- While the Magpies are losing Moore, they regain Jeremy Howe who is returning from injury. In Howe’s last three games without Moore, which all took place late last season, he averaged 20 disposals. The Magpies will need some rebound from somewhere which puts 15+ disposals in play.

- At the other end of the ground, all eyes should be on Luke McDonald following Aaron Hall’s injury. Hall was the main man for the Roos when it came to taking the kick-ins. McDonald took six kick-ins against the Cats last week on his way to 24 disposals. Given the potential to take even more now, keep an eye on the 20+ and 25+ disposal options.

- It was a slow start to the season for Steele Sidebottom but he appears to have got back to his ball winning best. After clearing 20 disposals only once in his first nine games, Sidebottom has gone 26 and 27 in his past two weeks. Most bookies haven’t caught up though and he is still good value for 20+ this week.

- We know forwards can get a hold of Collingwood. See Jeremy Cameron (six goals), Joe Daniher (four goals), Alec Waterman (four goals), Levi Casboult (four goals), Tom Lynch (six goals), Charlie Curnow (four goals), Mitch Lewis (four goals), Jesse Hogan (four goals) and Izak Rankine (four goals). Now subtract Darcy Moore from the backline and the floodgates could open. The Roos go to Nick Larkey an incredible number of times. Looking at him for multiple goals or even a big bag is absolutely in play.

- Tom Papley has enjoyed an interesting bump in centre bounce attendances in the past two weeks. He was in the middle for 11 against St Kilda and 17 against Essendon. Not surprisingly, his disposals have also jumped, with the forward posting 19 and 18 the past two weeks. Have the bookies noticed? 15+ this week is good value.

- Bailey Dale has been a picture of consistency on the Bulldogs’ backline and his kick-in numbers are certainly helping. Since Round 14 Dale has clearly been the Dogs’ top choice coming out of the goal-square, taking 21 kick-ins compared to six from Caleb Daniel who is the next best. Since Round 3 he has only missed the 25+ disposal number once, which came against Gold Coast at a blustery Ballarat.

- The Blues are a same-game multi goldmine. As a team they average more disposals than anyone in the competition. Sam Walsh averages clearly above 30. George Hewett, Sam Docherty and Patrick Cripps are all above 25. Matthew Kennedy, Adam Cerra, Adam Saad and Nic Newman all average above 20. On the wide open space of Perth Stadium, someone is going big and it might even be all of them.

- It’s ALL about the kick-ins at Brisbane. Who is going to step up in Daniel Rich’s absence? The two leading candidates are Keidean Coleman and Brandon Starcevich who took two each last week. Furthermore, Rich’s 25+ disposals will also need to be shared around. Take both players for 15+ and 20+ while the value is still there.

- The next place to attack the Lions is right in the middle. Dayne Zorko is also missing which means there will be even more opportunity for Lachie Neale to post a massive number. In case you need a reminder, here are Neale’s numbers against the Bombers since joining Brisbane - 41 disposals and two goals, 37 disposals and two goals, 33 disposals and two goals and 40 disposals.

- Mark McVeigh coached his first game for the Giants in Round 10. In that same game, Stephen Coniglio attended 22 centre bounces after only attending 21 in total across the previous five weeks. Those numbers have continued under McVeigh’s watch and Coniglio’s disposals have also skyrocketed. He has four 30+ disposal games in a row and could be perfect padding at the 25+ number.

- Keep an eye on Robbie Gray this week. The power star attended just 13 centre bounces in his opening nine games of the season. Last week he attended a whopping 10. That saw a big jump in his disposals, moving to 21 which was also his highest of the season. There hasn’t been any adjustment from the bookies and 15+ is good value.
