As police release a sobering road toll update along with a stern reminder to all road users to pay attention, we remember the victims of fatal crashes in Melbourne’s north.

Sydney Rd, Fawkner
A 30-year-old Fawkner man died after a hit and run crash at 1.40am on Saturday, January 8.
It was alleged the driver of a dark-coloured 2012-2015 Audi Q7 failed to stop after colliding with the pedestrian and continued north along Sydney Rd before turning left into Camp Rd.
Emergency services found the pedestrian lying on the road.
Police released CCTV footage of a car travelling along Sydney Rd following the collision in hope someone might recognise it.
Mickleham Rd, Yuroke
A female driver died after a single-vehicle crash about 1.30am on Wednesday, January 12.
Police said the vehicle left the road, struck a tree and then rolled.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car.
Widford St, Broadmeadows
Broadmeadows plumber Youssef Taha, 19, died after his motorcycle collided with a car turning onto Lahinch St about 8.30pm on Saturday, February 12.
An 18-year-old female passenger of the bike was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the car stopped and assisted police with their inquiries.
Mr Taha’s heartbroken family said he was a “good-hearted kid” who was always there for those he cared about.
A Go Fund Me campaign raised more than $11,000 for the family.
Eltham-Yarra Glen Rd, Christmas Hills
A 44-year-old Doreen man died after his motorcycle veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a car about 2.30pm onSunday, February 13.
The driver of the car, who received minor injuries, stopped at the scene and assisted police with their inquiries.
Mount Macedon Rd, Mount Macedon
A 62-year-old Riddells Creek man died in hospital after a motorcycle crash at 2.55pm on Sunday, February 13.
Police said the motorcyclist was travelling in convoy with three other riders when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a tree.
Wandong Rd, Kilmore
An unidentified driver died in a single-vehicle crash onSaturday, March 5, with a passer-by discovering the crash scene about 11.20am.
Police at the time said it appeared the car — a black Mazda hatch — was travelling along Wandong Rd, east of Millards Rd, when it crashed into a tree.
Sydney Rd, Coburg North
A 92-year-old man died in hospital after he was hit by a car at the intersection of Sydney and Bakers roads at 12.20pm on Thursday, April 7.
The driver of the car, a 25-year-old Hadfield man, was not injured and assisted police.
The elderly pedestrian, who had been crossing the road at the time of the incident, died from his injuries three weeks later.
Johnston St, Abbotsford
A 74-year-old Fitzroy man died after he was hit by a Toyota sedan on the corner of Johnston and Hoddle streets about 9am on Sunday, April 10.
The 69-year-old sedan driver, Tony Page of South Yarra, was charged with dangerous driving causing death, and in court claimed to have accidentally accelerated through a red light as the pedestrian was crossing the road.
Mr Page returns to court on August 29.
Melville Rd, Pascoe Vale South
A 43-year-old Brunswick West cyclist died after a collision with a tow truck at the intersection of Brearley Pde at 1:30pm on Tuesday, April 12.
The male cyclist was travelling north on Melville Rd before he was hit and then dragged under the truck for several metres.
The 48-year-old truck driver, Mendo Vrskovski of Meadow Heights, was subsequently charged with dangerous driving causing death.
A bail application hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Vrskovski allegedly had the drug ice in his system when he failed to give way at the intersection.
He will return to court on August 16 for a committal hearing.
Abbotsford St, North Melbourne
A 59-year-old St Leonards woman died in hospital after she was struck by a car near the Arden St intersection about 8pm on Monday, April 18.
The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Traralgon man, stopped at the scene and rendered assistance before the woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She died the following Friday, April 22.
Edgars Rd, Thomastown
An unidentified male died at the scene after his motorbike crashed into a Hyundai van turning right from Edgars Rd onto the Metropolitan Ring Rd, just after 9.30am on Wednesday, April 27.
The van driver, a 22-year-old Whittlesea man, was not injured and assisted police.
Goulburn Valley Highway, Seymour
A 64-year-old Seymour woman died in hospital after her Mazda sedan left the road and crashed into a tree about 8.30am on Monday, May 16.
The woman was the driver and sole occupant of the car and was travelling east at the time of the crash.
Broadford-Kilmore Rd, Kilmore
Also on May 16, an unidentified male driver died after his car collided with a truck near the Kellys Lane intersection, north of Kilmore, about 1.45pm.
The truck driver assisted police with inquiries, as investigators urged other potential witnesses to come forward with information.
Hume Highway, Craigieburn
A “top bloke that would go out of his way for his mates and family,” Turgay Ozgen, 30, died when his motorbike crashed into the back of a car travelling south on the Hume Highway, near Rushwood Drive, about 8.05am on Thursday, June 2.
The driver of the car was uninjured, but Mr Ozgen — a beloved member of the Turkish community — died at the scene.
Plenty Rd, Bundoora
Craigieburn man Robbie Hudd, 28, died after an allegedly stolen Audi sedan struck a pole and rolled onto its roof on Plenty Rd, near RMIT University, about 4.10am on Thursday, June 16.
The sole occupant of the car, Mr Hudd was travelling north when he hit the guard rails of the northbound lanes, crossed over the island between the lanes and hit the pole on the southbound side.
His funeral service heard he was not wearing a seatbelt, and was driving “too fast” at the time of the crash.
Hayston Blvd, Epping
An 18-year-old Wollert man died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing it on Hayston Blvd about 5am on Sunday, July 3.
Murrindindi Rd, Murrindindi
An unidentified driver died in a single-vehicle crash on Murrindindi Rd, near Cummins Rd, about 2.30pm on Monday, July 4.
Six emergency vehicles attended reports an individual was trapped in a vehicle after crashing into a tree.
Police referred the matter to the Coroner and declined to comment further on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Bell St, Coburg
An 85-year-old Coburg man was struck and killed by a Hyundai sedan while attempting to cross Bell St, near the Davis St intersection, just before 7am on Tuesday, July 19.
The male sedan driver stopped at the scene and assisted police with their inquiries.
The incident was the 28th pedestrian death on Victorian roads in 2022.
The man who died was a resident of Davis St who shared a home with his elderly sister.
