Tributes are flowing for a young Craigieburn man killed in an alleged stolen car crash on Thursday morning.
Robbie Hudd, 28, died after an allegedly stolen Audi sedan struck a pole and rolled onto its roof on Plenty Rd, Bundoora about 4.10am.
Friends have taken to social media to express their shock and sorrow at the loss.
“He is absolutely loved by so many people - a beautiful young man taken way too soon,” one friend said.
“I am absolutely heartbroken with the news.”
Mr Hudd’s Facebook profile describes him as self-employed.
In the days before his death, he had posted about looking forward to a “fresh start” in Western Australia.
Older posts suggest he was grieving the recent death of his girlfriend and first love, Tylah.
“I will forever love you and have you in my dreams,” a post from December 2021 reads.
Friends said Tylah died as a result of “an accident” last year.
Car in horror crash allegedly stolen, police confirm
The sole occupant of the car, Mr Hudd was travelling north on Plenty Rd, near RMIT Bundoora, when he struck a pole on the southbound side.
Police confirmed the driver hit the guard rails of the northbound lanes after losing control of the vehicle.
The out-of-control car then crossed over the island between the lanes and hit the pole.
The Audi flipped on its roof, taking the pole down with it.
Police confirmed a 28-year-old Craigieburn man died at the scene.
Emergency services had removed the vehicle from the scene by about 9.30am Thursday.
The southbound lanes of Plenty Rd were closed while the pole was removed from the road, reopening about 11am.
Late Thursday afternoon police confirmed the Audi was allegedly stolen from a Barkly St, Brunswick address in November, 2021.

A man died after being hit by a truck on the Western Highway in Thornhill Park just before 10.30pm.
The yet to be identified man sadly died at the scene.
The driver of the truck stopped and is helping police with their inquiries.
The circumstances surrounding the collision will be investigated.
And a truck driver died after a single vehicle crash in Buxton on Wednesday afternoon.
Police believe the truck may have jack knifed on Buxton-Marysville Rd just after 1.30pm.
Police said the truck hit a tree and sadly the yet to be identified driver has died at the scene.
The seriously injured passenger was trapped for some time in the vehicle with emergency services working to remove him.
He was flown to hospital in a serious condition.
The exact cause of the crash will be investigated.
