Police have released CCTV footage of a car they believe was involved in a hit-run that killed a pedestrian in Fawkner.
Emergency services were called to Sydney Rd about 1.40am on January 8 following reports of a man laying on the road.
It is believed the driver failed to stop after colliding with the pedestrian and continued north along Sydney Rd before turning left into Camp Rd.
The pedestrian, a 30-year-old Fawkner man, died at the scene.
It is not clear if the driver knew he hit the pedestrian.
Detectives believe the car of interest is a dark-coloured 2012-2015 Audi Q7.
Police said the vehicle would have frontal damage between its two headlights and damage to the bonnet.
CCTV footage of the car travelling along Sydney Rd following the collision was released in hope someone might recognise it.
Detective senior sergeant Paul Lineham said there were several “near misses” involving other vehicles before the car collided with the pedestrian.
“Prior to the crash, the male pedestrian was drinking at a licensed premises just up the road, from there he’s then started walking contrary to the traffic flow in the northbound lane,” Sgt Lineham said.
A driver who narrowly avoided hitting the man, performed a U-turn to check on him but by the time they returned, he was dead.
“It’s absolutely devastating,” Sgt Lineham said.
This comes after a Hampton Park grandfather was tragically killed in a horror hit-run collision on January 6.
Sole Manapori was struck by a car while riding a bike to work near the intersection of Hallam and Pound roads about 4.30am.
The 58-year-old cyclist died at the scene.
It is alleged the driver of the car failed to stop after colliding with Sole before setting the car alight a short time later in a Glen Waverley carpark.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both incidents and urge any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
