Coronavirus: NSW cases revealed by postcode, suburb on COVID-19

New figures reveal for the first time a full breakdown of confirmed COVID-19 cases by suburb – revealing the real battlegrounds against the deadly virus.

While Bondi has attracted much of the attention the fresh data shows the likes of Mosman, Gosford and Wentworthville as the front lines.

The 2145 postcode, which takes in Greystanes, Wentworthville, Girraween and Westmead in Sydney’s western suburbs, has a staggering 26 cases as has the 2250 postcode covering Gosford, Erina and Kariong on the state’s Central Coast.

Eastwood and Marsfield are not far behind with 24 cases, equal with Cronulla, Woolooware, Burraneer and Maianbar in the Sutherland Shire.

The number of cases in Cronulla amounts to almost half of those across the entire Sutherland Shire.

As expected the Bondi postcode, 2026, has by far and away the most cases with 91 – more than three times the second most on the list.

The unenviable honour lies with Mosman on Sydney’s north shore with 30 cases.

Affluent Bellevue Hill is a surprising third on the list with 28 cases

Bondi’s worrying total has been contributed to by a couple of known clusters including the Boogie Wonderland party at the Bucket List bar and the Bondi Hardware restaurant which recorded 44 of those cases.

Also in Sydney’s east is the 2021 postcode incorporating Centennial Park, Paddington and Moore Park with 23 cases, followed by 22 in 2010 and 2021 covering Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Rushcutters Bay, Potts Point and Woolloomooloo.

Blacktown and other nearby suburbs including Marayong and Prospect have 20 cases, along with Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Beaumont Hills.

Randwick and Clovelly recorded 19 cases followed by 18 in the 2065 postcode incorporating Crows Nest, Naremburn, Wollstonecraft and St Leonards.

Sydney’s expensive Eastern Suburbs made up seven of the 10 worst-hit suburbs across the entire state.

Bondi Beach and local backpacker hostels were among the first locations where police had to crack down on a flagrant disregard for social distancing and isolation orders, with Waverley and Randwick Councils closing Sydney’s eastern beaches from Bondi to Maroubra.

The number of cases across NSW has now hit 2298, with the South East Sydney Local Health District alone accounting for almost a quarter with 510 cases in total.

The next worst affected health district is Northern Sydney with 409 cases, followed by the Central Coast with 104.

More than 1400 cases were contracted overseas but several local clusters in addition to the Boogie Wonderland party and the Bondi Hardware restaurant have also contributed to high numbers across Sydney.

A Stanwell Tops wedding in March contributed to 38 cases of coronavirus, while 22 cases were diagnosed among residents at the Dorothy Henderson aged care facility in Ryde and 19 at a Ryde church meeting.
