Bondi Beach and Bellevue Hill top Eastern Suburbs virus hot spots

New statistics show for the first time how many coronavirus cases there are in each suburb. The figures have revealed it’s not just Bondi struggling to contain the virus in the east with Bellevue Hill and Queens Park now on the front line.

Affluent Bellevue Hill is at the heart of the battle against the deadly coronavirus – with cases in the suburb only topped by Mosman and Bondi in NSW.

The prosperous suburb has 28 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with Mosman registering 30 and Bondi a staggering 91.

As of April 2, NSW has 2,298 cases of coronavirus.

A new breakdown of figures reveal how many cases are in each postcode.

Almost 30 of the Bondi Beach-Tamarama cases appeared in the seven days between March 24 and March 31, when the latest statistics were collected.

To address this cluster of potentially lethal cases, largely among backpackers, a coronavirus pop-up testing clinic was set up in Bondi Beach on April 1.

Bondi Junction and neighbouring Queens Park now has 26 confirmed coronavirus cases.

While Rose Bay North, Watsons Bay, Dover Heights, Vaucluse and HMAS Watson have 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Just up the road from Bondi Beach, Bronte and Waverley have 14 confirmed cases of the virus.

In the Woollahra Council area, the suburb with the highest number of coronavirus cases is Bellevue Hill, followed by Paddington, Moore Park and Centennial Park with 24 confirmed cases.

The suburb of Woollahra and the suburb of Rose Bay both have 10 confirmed cases.

Darling Point, Edgecliff, Point Piper and HMAS Rushcutters have a collective tally of seven cases, while Double Bay has three.

Waverley Council, which takes in Bondi Beach and surrounds, has the largest cluster of coronavirus cases in NSW, with the last count on March 31 tallying 143 people.

Bondi Beach was closed on March 21 after hoards of people took the beach the day before despite social distancing measures.
