It is shaping up as a summer of love for Australian tennis star Alexei Popyrin who has popped the question to his long-time girlfriend Amy Pederick.
Popyrin and Pederick shared their engagement news on Instagram with the loving sentence “Forever with you” along with a heart and diamond ring emojis.
Popyrin is currently ranked 24th in the world in men’s singles.
Popyrin and Pederick have been a couple since 2018, but they first met when they were just eight years old in Dubai.
Popyrin, 25, spoke about meeting Pederick in an interview with the Khaleej Times earlier this year.
“We went to the class together (in Dubai), so we were in the same maths class when we were eight years old and we kind of kept in touch since then,” he said.
“And then when we were 18 years old, she was in London and I was there for the Queens (tennis tournament) and we met up, and we have been dating ever since.”
Pederick is a physiotherapist and is part of Popyrin’s team when he is competing.
