Traders temper bets on RBA rate cuts after pre-election budget

Financial markets have dialled back expectations of rate cuts by the Reserve Bank after Tuesday’s budget showed a return of deficits for years to come.

Traders imply rate cuts totalling 65 basis points over the next 12 months, down from 68 basis points before the budget. They still ascribe a 75 per cent chance of a rate cut for May, according to data provided by Barrenjoey.
