Boho. Eclectic. Edgy. Bloodwood has taken the defining elements of its home suburb and added a good dose of affability and style. From a cheery 'How ya doin'?' to the kooky, timber-y, recycled-ish interior, this may be the ultimate neighbourhood eatery. Then there's the food; those ex-Claude's kids in the kitchen sure know what they're about. Their ever-changing menu, designed around shareable plates, sings with X-factor yum-ness born of precise cooking and careful ingredient selection. Roasted heirloom vegetable salad is an artful mess of Dutch carrots, witlof, zucchini and oyster mushrooms, with samphire and black lentils adding a dash of salt, sea and earth. Baked barramundi sitting in light miso broth is topped with a jungle of mizuna and shaved broccolini and shows a deft hand with Asian tastes and textures. Comfort-fare nuts will go off over glazed Holmbrae chicken sitting in a puddle of rich jus with roasted capsicums and nuggets of confit taro.
