Little Lagos
Spice, community and booming tunes.
Nigerian$$
This popular hub of Nigerian food and music is a place of happy diners, paprika hued walls, curtains of traditional fabric and West African beats louder than the Enmore Road traffic outside.
Most definitely order the boldly spiced goat stew and soak up its bright red brew of tomato, onion, capsicum and habaneros with hand-held wodges of pillowy pounded yam.
Later, mix gizdodo – stir-fried golden plantains and chicken gizzards – with tangy jollof rice, but not before putting your dessert order in. The deep-fried, sugar-sprinkled doughnut-esque puff puffs move quickly.
There’s a succinct list of beer, wine and cocktails but try cooling your tongue with Maltina, a nonalcoholic slightly sweet beer-like drink often mixed with condensed milk.
Music pumping on a party speaker can drown out conversation, but ordering is done through your mobile, and you’ll be too busy eating to chat much anyway.
