They’re good on the tools, but these South East Queensland tradies aren’t so good at obeying the law.

Here’s a list of some badly-behaved tradies who have recently been brought before the courts.

Jackson John Paulger

Slacks Creek bitumen sealer Jackson John Paulger landed in court after viciously bashing an unconscious man as he lay motionless on the ground.

He pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to eight charges including assaults occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

The court heard Paulger bashed a man unconscious after being sacked from his job in Verrierdale on November 27, 2019.

Police prosecutor Sgt Donna Kay said witnesses saw Paulger strike the man in the head, causing him to lose consciousness and “he continued to stomp, punch and kick the man while he lay motionless on the ground”.

The following day, Paulger threw a glass bottle through the window of Hungry Jacks in Logan Central.

He was sentenced to a head sentence of two years imprisonment with an immediate parole release date.

He was also ordered to pay $1000 in compensation to the assault victim and $1,111 in restitution to the affected business.

Brendan Wayne Clayton

Bribie Island glazier Brendan Wayne Clayton, 26, led cops on a wild, meth-fuelled car chase through Logan, stopped mid way to steal a Jeep.

He pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to five charges including two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and one count each of evasion and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard police caught Clayton doing a burnout and attempted to intercept his silver Holden, which had the number plate removed, but it failed to stop on May 1 last year.

The Polair police helicopter began tracking him and they observed Clayton driving dangerously.

He ran a number of red lights and crossed onto the wrong side of the road in front of oncoming vehicles on Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains.

Polair then tracked him driving to the Boronia Heights shopping centre.

He stopped his car in the middle of the road and stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee and drove off.

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment with an immediate parole release date.

The 334 days he spent in pre-sentence custody declared time served under the sentence. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Connor Thomas Mackenzie

Ormeau tiler Connor Thomas Mackenzie, 23, has been told he’s lucky to be alive after drunkenly crashing a dirt bike while joy-riding almost four times over the limit.

He pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to driving under the influence of liquor.

The court heard police were called to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorbike on Opperman Dr, Ormeau about 7.30pm on January 22.

Witnesses stated the injured rider had been drinking at a house party up the road.

The court heard Mackenzie had been riding an unregistered trail bike on the road, performing burnouts in the rain.

He had not been wearing a helmet at the time of his crash and was left with “significant facial and skull injuries.”

Magistrate Clare Kelly said: “You’re very lucky you didn’t kill yourself on that occasion.”

He was fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months. A conviction was recorded.

Waylon William Wood

A drink-driving Logan concreter, who crashed his car while over four times the limit, developed a ‘significant problem’ with booze after a tragedy in his life.

Bethania father of two Waylon William Wood, 25, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to nine charges, including driving under the influence of liquor.

The court heard Wood crashed his car into a ditch in Buccan and recorded a 0.209 blood alcohol reading on August 7 last year.

Wood’s lawyer told the court alcohol had been a “significant problem” in Wood’s life.

“That revolves around circumstances when he was 19. He had a set of twins who died when they were only two weeks old,” he said.

He was fined $1800 and disqualified from driving for eight months.

Steve Wederell

Windaroo landscaper Steve Wederell, 45, landed in court after wreaking havoc at a popular Logan shopping precinct and smashing up businesses.

The NZ born man pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to wilful damage, entering premises with intent and entering premises and committing an indictable offence by break.The court heard Wederell had been “significantly intoxicated” when he broke into two businesses at a Mount Warren Park shopping precinct late at night on November 16, 2021.

Wederell’s lawyer told the court he had been drinking on the night of his offending and couldn’t recollect what happened.

Magistrate Louise Shepard said he had been on parole at the time of the offending. He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment suspended for two years. He was also ordered to pay $1496 in compensation.

Brendon Paul Wells

Logan glazier Brendon Paul Wells, 30, attacked a man with a pole and broke his arm after catching him with his partner, a court has heard.

He pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm while armed.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Karine Evans said Wells had been armed with a pole and attacked a man at a residence in Buccan in August 2020.

The court heard he struck the man in the arms, legs and head, leaving him with a broken arm.

Wells, who represented himself in court, said the attack had been an act of “anger and hurt.”

“I found my partner cheating on me with the victim,” he said.

He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

Shawn Joseph Innis

Brisbane tradie Shawn Joseph Innis, 34, described himself as a “dirty old man” in a disturbing online ad where he was looking to hook up underage girls in exchange for drugs, a court has heard.

He pleaded guilty in district court to two counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count each of making child exploitation material (hidden network/anonymising service) and using carriage service to prepare to cause harm or engage in sexual activity with or procure for sexual activity person under 16.

The court heard Innis, who works as a painter, posted an advertisement on a website looking for underage girls for illegal sexual activity on August 21, 2020.

The 559 days he spent in pre-sentence custody was declared time served and he was released on a $500 recognisance for a period of six months.

Grady Paul Grant

Drunk tradie Grady Paul Grant, 26, who bit a man’s finger down to the bone when he tried to protect a distressed woman, had only recently been sentenced for drink driving.

The North Stradbroke Island man pleaded guilty to assaults occasioning bodily harm; three counts of obstructing police; and possessing dangerous drugs.

Cleveland Magistrates Court heard a drunk and yelling Grant refused to leave a young North Stradbroke Island woman’s property at 10.20pm on November 3 last year when two men came to the distressed resident’s assistance.

According to police, Grant assaulted both men, biting one of them on the finger “down to the bone”.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ probation and ordered to pay his bite victim $500 in compensation.

Adam Wayne Parnell

Sunshine Coast tradie Adam Wayne Parnell, 28, stole more than $13,000 worth of tools from the vans of fellow tradesman while in a “methamphetamine haze”, a court heard.

He was given probation by Maroochydore Magistrates Court after he pleaded guilty to five charges including entering premises by break and commit indictable offence, possessing tainted property, possessing ammunition and possessing knuckle dusters.

The court heard Parnell was high on methamphetamine when he broke into two tradesmen’s vans in May and July of 2021.

He sentenced him to 18 months probation and ordered him to pay $13,787 in restitution. A conviction was recorded.

Ashley Boyd Palmer

Springwood construction worker Ashley Boyd Palmer, 41, avoided jail after being sentenced for dealing meth, marijuana, MDMA and other drugs over a four-month period.

A police sting targeting drug trafficking in the Ipswich area led police to him when he was identified as a contact of two traffickers officers were investigating.

Police intercepted Palmer’s phone and discovered he was dealing drugs to six people between July and October 2020.

An analysis of the 41-year-old’s phone revealed he supplied methamphetamine, marijuana, MDMA and other drugs but it was unknown how much money Palmer made from the deals.

Palmer pleaded guilty in Ipswich District Court to nine counts of supplying schedule 2 dangerous drugs and one count of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

He was given a head sentence of two years and released on immediate parole.

Ronald Sidney George Thompson

Gympie tradie Ronald Sidney George Thompson, 49, was sentenced for molested a sleeping child.

He pleaded guilty in Gympie District Court to indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The court heard the victim, who was 12 years old at the time, was at Thompson’s house when the indecent act happened and he had been heavily drinking that night.

Thompson was sentenced to six months behind bars, suspended for 12 months.

Anton Corbett

Logan plumbing apprentice Anton Corbett, 20, was convicted for supplying cannabis, diazepam, alprazolam in street-level quantities on nine occasions between June 30 and September 28 last year.

He pleaded guilty to 14 charges including supplying dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous drugs in district court in Beenleigh.

The court heard Corbett used Snapchat to tell people about the drugs he had available and even offered to deliver them.

He was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Ray Anthony Terare

Tamborine painter Ray Anthony Terare, 49, pleaded guilty at district court in Beenleigh to four charges, including indecent treatment of a child under 16, making child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material and rape.

The court heard the man snuck into the bedroom of a 7-year-old girl one night in 2020, and told her not to tell anyone or she would not get her tablet device.

Terare performed vile acts on her while taking photos. He kept the photos on his Google Cloud account, which was later discovered by the child’s mother and she alerted police.

He was sentenced him to three and a half years imprisonment with a parole eligibility date on January 20, 2022.

Kaiden Stewart James Warner

Curra tradie Kaiden Stewart James Warner, 19, first crashed his grandmother’s car into a ditch while drunk, then he crashed his own car while drunk and then he was caught doing a burnout while over the limit.

He pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court to 10 offences, including three drink-driving incidents.

The court heard he was caught drink driving on June 25 last year, when he crashed his grandmother’s car into a ditch and it burst into flames.

Marijuana and ammunition were found in the car.

He was sentenced to six months jail, suspended for two years and his licence was disqualified for two years.

Kelly Mose Green

Eagleby carpenter Kelly Mose Green, 39, landed in court after he repeatedly punched and kicked his girlfriend in the face during a gruesome attack.

He pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to six charges including assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and common assault.

The court heard he punched his girlfriend with a closed fist multiple times in the face and when she put her head down he kicked her in the face.

He was also sentenced to complete 12 months probation.

Kallen Andrew Tjaden

Brisbane tradie Kallen Andrew Tjaden, 26, has fronted court after forcing himself on a server at the popular Fox Hotel during his work Christmas party.

The Brighton dad pleaded guilty to common assault at Sandgate Magistrate Court.

The court heard Tjaden was at the Fox Hotel for his work Christmas party, where a 22-year-old female employee was serving on December 4, 2021.

Tjaden is said to have forced himself on her by kissing her on the mouth and face.

He was sentenced to nine months of probation, and a conviction was recorded.

Justin Shane McNab

Two victims were left battered after a well-known Noosaville tradie clobbered them during a fevered flurry of violence.

Justin Shane McNab was in the toilets at the Rolling Rock nightclub on Hastings Street in the early hours of June 21, 2021, when he and another man pushed past each other.

The 30-year-old stonemason said, “watch who you barge mate”, with the two shoving each other, before McNab punched his victim in the face.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard the victim suffered cuts, bruises and swelling to his face, with the punch breaking his glasses.

McNab had also punched another man in the head while he was walking to a taxi rank the same morning, and left the victim lying on the road as he walked off.

McNab pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and public nuisance and was sentenced to six months’ jail, suspended for 12 months.

He was then ordered to pay $1000 compensation, as well as $489 in restitution. Convictions were recorded.

Paul Anthony Dyason

A heavily intoxicated roofer was dealt a hefty fine after he shouted racial slurs at a group of young people and accused them of hurting his friend.

Police were called to a disturbance outside the Caloundra KFC on Bowman Rd involving Paul Anthony Dyason at 3pm on November 17, 2021.

A witness told police that Dyason, 50, had been harassing a group of young people sitting on tables outside the fast-food venue.

Police prosecutor Stephen Potter said Dyason started to speak about an incident that had occurred the previous weekend involving a traffic accident and made racial slurs referring to the group at KFC.

“He was calling them n----rs and believed they knew something about the incident,” Sergeant Potter said.

Back at the watch house, Dyason was searched and police found a glass pipe that had residue of methamphetamine.

Dyason pleaded guilty to three offences in Caloundra Magistrates Court on February 16, 2022, including public nuisance, possession of property used in the commission of a drug offence and failing to appear.

Dyason was fined $1500 for the offences and had to forfeit the glass pipe. A conviction was recorded.

Brock Jeffrey Winston

A former professional motocross rider turned concreter was arrested by police after a drug raid on his Eumundi home uncovered a cocktail of party and controlled drugs.

Brock Jeffrey Winston was at his home in Eumundi about 7.45am on May 27, 2021 when police descended on the property in the search for narcotics.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard the 34-year-old Eumundi man had been found with 50g of marijuana, 0.44g of MDMA and a small amount of cocaine and testosterone.

Police prosecutor Lee Allen said scales were found by police, which Winston said was used for weighing his cocaine, with all of the drugs being for the 34-year-old’s personal use.

The court heard the testosterone had been left at Winston’s by a friend.

Winston pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled drug, and possessing property suspected of being used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

He was fined $1300, with a conviction recorded.
