A trusted BMX coach from Redlands charged with disturbing child sex offences arranged for his young victim to come to his home and also once picked her up from school, a court has heard.

Mount Cotton dad Luke Jaiden Hombsch, 27, pleaded guilty in district court on February 11 to one count of carnal knowledge of a child under 16 and five counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The court heard Hombsch met his child victim when she was 12.

His relationship with the girl became increasingly personal at age 14 when they started talking over social media in mid-2019 and exchanged naked pictures of each other.

Hombsch arranged to meet the girl to have sex at his home on August 4, 2019.

The court heard on two further occasions she performed oral sex on him in a public place, and he also picked her up after school once, and she performed oral sex on him in his car.

The court heard Hombsch cut off contact with the girl in late November 2019, before it resumed again in January 2020.

By that stage, the girl had told her female friend, who was 15, about their sexual relationship, and she was added to a group chat with them.

In the group chat, Hombsch asked the girls to send him some “sexy photos” and sent a photo holding his erect penis to both girls, along with four videos of himself masturbating.

The 15-year-old friend told her mother about Hombsch’s relationship with the complainant, and the mother made a formal complaint to the police.

Judge Vicki Loury said while it seemed the girl had been a willing participant in their relationship, she was a child, and he knew she was a school student.

“I have read the report of Dr Hatzipetrou,” she said.

“You said to him that you did not know how old the complainant was, that she had thrown herself at you and that she appeared to have the capacity to make decisions and choices, assumedly about engaging in sexual activity.”

“You accept though, by your plea that you knew she was under 16 years of age …”

The court heard Hombsch was 25 and married at the time of offending but had no criminal history.

Hombsch has been involved in BMX racing since age 10 and began professional racing at 16 but had a serious accident in 2017 and became more involved in coaching.

The court heard that Hombsch had since ended his association with his BMX club and had nothing more to do with coaching.

The court heard in 2019, during the time of the offending, Hombsch and his wife separated for a short time, and he sought counselling for a gambling addiction and depression.

He and his wife have since reunited and welcomed a child late last year.

Hombsch was given an 18-month sentence of imprisonment, to be suspended for three years, after serving a period of 6 months.
