A 20-year-old Logan man has applied for bail after allegedly stabbing two men during a violent fight at a hoon meet on the northern Gold Coast.

Joshua Paul Frank Godwin, 20, of Springwood, applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm and one count each of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a utensil.

Police will allege Mr Godwin armed himself with a knife and stabbed two men, aged 19 and 24, at a car meet in Woongoolba on November 28 last year.

The court heard the two victims both sustained “significant injuries” allegedly as a result of the use of the knife.

Magistrate Clare Kelly said she had considered the strength of the evidence of the Crown case and believed there were issues of defences that would need to play out in the matter.

“I’m also conscious of the fact that there are obviously competing versions,” she said.

“I am concerned, as Mr Godwin is in a show-cause position, that the conditions proposed (for bail) would not reduce, to an acceptable risk, the defendant would fail to appear and surrender into custody, given the significant seriousness of the charges.”

Bail was refused and his matters were adjourned for further mention on April 6.
