A young Brisbane tradie and father has fronted court after forcing himself on a server at the popular Fox Hotel during his work Christmas party.

Kallen Andrew Tjaden, 26, of Brighton, pleaded guilty to common assault at Sandgate Magistrate Court on February Thursday 24.

The court heard on December 4, 2021, Tjaden was at the Fox Hotel for his work Christmas party. The event was in a private function, where a 22-year-old female employee who was serving Tjaden and his work mates.

The court heard that in the lead up to the assault Tjaden made various flirtatious remarks and was harassing a worker. She told police she was very uncomfortable but tried to stay polite and do her job.

The party started at noon and at 4.30pm last drinks were called. Tjaden and his work mates were ushered out of the venue at 5pm.

The young female victim stood by the entrance of the venue showing patrons the way out. Tjaden then approached her and asked for a hug.

When she hesitated he grabbed her by both of her arms and although she attempted to pull away the court hear he gripped her tighter and asked for a kiss.

She told him ‘no’ and shook her. Tjaden is said to have then forced himself on her by kissing her on the mouth and face before poking his tongue out at her, smiling and laughing.

Afterwards she told her general manager and they took a photo of Tjaden as he was leaving the venue.

She reported the incident to the police along with the photo and CCTV footage from the venue which confirmed the assault.

Tjaden declined to be interviewed by police, saying he did not remember the incident at all. The court heard numerous of his work mates were ‘quite intoxicated’ and had to be asked to leave on the day.

Tjaden completed school until year 10, did a boilermaker apprenticeship, and now works full time as a boilermaker.

He has a criminal history and two children aged nine and five years old, the court heard.

Tjaden was sentenced to nine months of probation, and a conviction was recorded.
