We take a look at more than 40 mums and dads across Central Queensland who were in court for meth or committing crimes while using meth in the last year.

Convictions were recorded for all defendants.

DRUG OFFENCES

JACINTA MAREE PEARSON, 39

Pearson, a mother of four and convicted drug trafficker, was originally handed a lenient sentence in lieu of an agreement to give evidence in another case.

She was busted in possession of a large amount of methamphetamines when police arrested her for failing to testify.

Justice Graeme Crow said a warrant for Pearson’s arrest was issued on November 9, 2023, after she failed to give evidence.

Police arrested her on November 25 at the Welcome Home Hotel on George St, Rockhampton, at 7.15am and found her in possession of 3.639g of pure meth in 4.923g of substance along with 18g of marijuana heads, used pipes and needles, a small used marijuana pipe and a grinder.

Pearson pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on August 23 to possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, two of possessing drug utensils, one of possessing drugs and one of obstructing police.

Justice Crow sentenced Pearson to six months prison, cumulative on top of the four year trafficking term, with parole eligibility from September 3, 2024.

Langley, a “heavily using” drug addict and father of three, started trafficking as soon as he was released from prison for other drug offences.

He was busted with about $20,000 cash on the side of the highway and 10g of methamphetamines.

Justice Graeme Crow said Langley’s street level trafficking business, which commenced after September 16, 2022, until he was arrested in January 2023, was detected during Queensland Police operation Uniform Rigel.

Police had evidence via analysis of phone intercepts of at least 31 supplies.

Langley had a customer base of 20 to 30 people, with supplies of between 0.1g for $50 up to 3.5g for $1100 to “predominantly end users” for cash, credit or on tick.

He was intercepted driving on the Capricorn Highway on January 6, 2023, with police finding him in possession of $21,480 cash.

Justice Crow sentenced Langley to three years prison, wholly suspended with a three-year operational period.

Langley had spent 544 days in prison prior to sentence which was not declared as presentence custody.

Justice Crow also placed Langley on probation for 12 months.

Barron trafficked cocaine and marijuana, and arranged to supply more than 20 grams of methamphetamines, to support his own cocaine addiction and to buy things for his wife and three children.

Crown prosecutor Kathryn Walker said Barron, a Callide Power Station employee, had at least 22 customers and at least one employee.

Barron trafficked cocaine for more than four months from October 25, 2020 to March 4, 2021, and marijuana for eight months from July 27, 2020 to April 9, 2021.

It has been estimated that Barron sold 3.727 kilograms of marijuana for $46,580 and 24 grams of cocaine for at least $10,800.

Barron also arranged a supply 20.15 grams of methamphetamines in 27.085 grams of substance during his drug trafficking periods which was to be picked up from a Gracemere residence – this pick up arrangement was detected during a phone intercept.

Justice Graeme Crow said police searched Barron’s accommodation at Dawson Village mining

Justice Crow sentenced him to four years prison, ordered him to serve six months in prison and declared four days presentence custody as time already served.

Barron will be released from prison on January 18, 2025.

Taylor, a father of two and grandfather, supplied marijuana 10 times to five different customers and was caught with more the 25g of methamphetamine during a police search.

The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard during the search, Taylor, who was born and raised in Gladstone, told police he would smoke marijuana and meth in his shed and that he used meth to function and was smoking 1g of the drug a day.

Justice Graeme Crow said inside the shed, police found multiple bags of marijuana weighing 179g and 25.68g of pure meth in a container.

Police also found a mobile phone, digital scales, water pipes, glass pipe, grinder and a notebook resembling a tick sheet.

Justice Crow sentenced Taylor to three years prison with immediate parole.

Oberle, a mother of two who started using ice by 19 and 20, attempted to smuggle 59 buprenorphine strips into Capricornia Correctional Centre by concealing them in her bra.

Rockhampton District Court heard Oberle attended the prison at Etna Creek, north of the city on May 5, 2023, to visit her partner’s friend, who was incarcerated.

Oberle pleaded guilty on May 22 to one count each of supplying dangerous drugs with the circumstance of aggravation, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2.

Judge Jeff Clarke sentenced Oberle to 12 months prison, which was wholly suspended for two years.

Criminal convictions were recorded.

Rogan, a young mum who developed a drug habit after she was introduced to methamphetamine at 15, was caught supplying the drug and tried to cover her tracks by refusing police access to her phone.

The District Court in Rockhampton heard Eaydn Riva Rogan, 24, supplied meth on three occasions in May 2022 and once in August 2022.

A search warrant was conducted at her house and she was found with 0.5g of meth, a pipe and a phone.

Crown prosecutor Matthew Sutton said Rogan later refused to provide access to that phone to police, by pretending she forgot the code.

Rogan pleaded guilty to four counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, contravening an order about device information from digital device and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

Judge Clarke sentenced Rogan to 18 months, suspended for two years and declared two days of pre-sentence custody as time already served.

Nolan, a young mum who started using ice at 16, trafficked methamphetamine between April and July 2022.

Nolan’s offending was discovered through the 2022 police operation Uniform Wilton, which targeted drug distribution in the Rockhampton region.

During that period police identified Nolan had carried out 21 supplies to eight different customers, ranging in quantities from a point to 1.7g.

Police searched Nolan’s home on July 1, 2022 and found five clipseal bags with a total of 4.492g of pure meth in 6.4g of substance.

Nolan pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to a number of offences including drug trafficking, drug supplying and possessing more than 2g of meth.

The charges also included contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing utensils or pipes that had been used, possessing a thing used in the commission of a crime and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence.

Nolan was sentenced to five years imprisonment which was immediately suspended for an operational period of five years.

Alderson, a mother-of-two who turned to using meth after being robbed by a man high on amphetamines and armed with a knife in 2007, was jailed for trafficking the drug.

Justice Graeme Crow said Alderson’s trafficking was detected during Queensland Police Service’s Operation Uniform Wilton.

Alderson had 36 “customers” and provided a total of 315.7g in 126 supplies between July 6 and September 9, 2022, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on April 11.

Justice Crow said her largest supply was “an incredible” 140g for $37,500.

He said police intercepted her driving on August 11, 2022, after suspecting she had travelled to Gladstone to restock her drug supply.

Justice Crow said her passenger, Patrick Lloyd Swayn, “poorly” hid 101.467g of substance, which contained 72.967g of pure meth, under his “scrotum”.

The 48-year-old father of five was handed a two years and four months prison term in August 2023 after pleading guilty to one count of possessing more than 2g of a schedule one drug.

Alderson pleaded guilty to one count each of trafficking drugs, possessing more than 2g of drugs and contravening a directive to provide access to electronically stored information.

Justice Crow sentenced her to six years prison, declared 364 days presentence custody as time already served and set parole eligibility for December 10, 2024.

KARA SHERYLEE WOOD, 33

Wood, a mum of three, began a street-level drug trafficking enterprise, supplying methamphetamine and marijuana, to cut the cost of her own drug use.

The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Wood was engaged in drug trafficking for a month and 22 days between October and December 2022, supplying 20 different ‘customers’.

She supplied meth “more regularly”.

Wood pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Supreme Court to a number of offences, including drug trafficking, drug supplying, possessing more than two grams of meth, possessing things used in the commission of trafficking drugs, possessing things used in the supplying drugs.

She also pleaded guilty to 20 other offences, including possessing drugs, possessing used pipes or utensils, obstructing police and possessing utensils, pipes etc with intention to use.

Wood was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment.

Her five and a half months of presentence custody was not declared as time already served and she will be released on parole on November 30.

Hughes, a father, was acting as the “middleman” when he arranged 18 drug supplies, including methamphetamine, for people over a five-month period, the District Court in Rockhampton heard.

Crown prosecutor Kathryn Walker said Hughes arranged six supplies of cocaine and 12 of meth between April 29, 2021, and September 9, 2021.

Ms Walker said the cocaine supplies were for one to seven grams and the meth supplies were for 0.01g to 28.3495g.

Hughes pleaded guilty on February 29 to 18 counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count of possessing a thing used in a crime.

Judge Michael Burnett sentenced him to 18-months prison, wholly suspended with an operational period of three years.

Oliver, a father of three, was busted with methamphetamine, cannabis and numerous restricted medicines.

He pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 21 to numerous offences including multiple counts of possessing dangerous drugs and restricted medicines, and one count of drug-driving.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Oliver to four months’ jail, wholly suspended for 18 months.

She also fined him $1250 and disqualified him from driving for one month.

Convictions were recorded.

Thompson, a father of three, had 17 customers with text messages detailing 28 supplies – only seven confirmed to have taken place and with 18 agreements – the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard.

Justice Graeme Crow said Thompson’s trafficking of methamphetamines was “low level”, supplying to end users in quantities of 0.1 to 0.7 grams between December 13, 2021, and November 3, 2022.

The court heard he only made $6780 from the illegal business.

Thompson pleaded guilty on February 5 to one count of trafficking a dangerous drug and one of possessing anything used in trafficking drugs.

He was sentenced to three years prison with parole release on August 4, 2024.

HANNAH JANE QUANT, 33

Quant, the sole parent of a “special needs” child who began using meth again once she was released from prison after serving jail time for possessing $55,000 in drugs was sentenced to parole only when she was busted with 8.42g of pure meth in an 11g substance.

Quant had $3105 cash in her wallet when police raided her Boyne Island home on October 13, 2022, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on January 15, 2024.

She also had a blue book which contained a tick sheet and scales.

Quant pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, possessing a used glass pipe, possessing Australian currency suspected to be the proceeds of a drug crime and possessing property suspected of being used in a drug crime.

She was sentenced to three years prison with immediate parole.

Randall, a mother, used Snapchat and Facebook Messenger to arrange drug sales, including methamphetamine, with her customers.

The Supreme Court at Rockhampton heard on December 21, 2023, police had intelligence that Randall was dealing amphetamine, methamphetamine and cocaine at East St in Rockhampton.

Police seized Randall’s phone and on it they found Snapchat and Facebook Messenger communications that showed she was dealing drugs.

The court was told that during over eight days in 2022, Randall supplied more than $2800 worth of meth to one customer who was also dealing drugs.

To another customer, Randall supplied 10.5g of meth for $2000, the court heard.

It was told that a tick sheet of Randall’s showed she was owed money by seven different customers, at one stage.

A tick sheet also confirmed that Randall made $5100 worth of sales in a one week period.

Randall pleaded guilty to charges including six counts of supplying dangerous drugs and trafficking.

She was sentenced to three years’ jail with immediate parole eligibility.

James, a father of three, was found with 7.95g of pure methamphetamine, drug items and a knife.

James’ phone was seized but police were not able to get access to it despite an order.

The Supreme Court at Rockhampton heard that while police had the phone, it was on “locked screen” when they saw several messages come through from people seeking meth from James.

James pleaded guilty on December 21, 2023, to possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property used in connection with a drug offence, unlawful weapon possession, and contravening an order about access to information stored electronically.

He was sentenced to three years’ jail with immediate parole.

DARRYN JOHN WEBBER, 42

Webber, a Rockhampton father, trafficked methamphetamine and cocaine.

Webber operated a wholesale level drug trafficking business with an associate, trafficking meth and cocaine for 11 days between April 14 and April 25, 2021.

During that 11-day period, Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said Webber and his associate sourced ounces of meth and that the associate had five customers.

Mr Kest said the drug trafficking was revealed after an analysis of Webber’s phone following a search warrant at Quest Rockhampton on Victoria Parade on April 25, 2021.

He said during the search police found a total of 7.811g of pure meth, 1.3g of pure cocaine and 204g of marijuana.

Webber pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court at Rockhampton on December 20, 2023, to possessing a dangerous drug in excess of 2g, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime defined in Part 2.

Justice Crow sentenced Webber to 4.5 years prison, with parole eligibility on December 29, 2024 and declared 51 days of pre-sentence custody as time already served.

Mott, a father, was busted at Yeppoon with 3.73g of meth and 55g of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on November 9, 2023, to numerous drug offences including multiple counts of possessing meth and cannabis, as well as stealing and seven breaches of bail.

He was ordered to two years’ probation with conditions including drug testing.

Convictions were recorded.

Hartigan, a Rockhampton mother of three with grandchildren, was busted with more than eight grams of methamphetamines while on parole for supplying drugs.

The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Leeanne Jade Hartigan, 47 was on parole when police raided a Norman Gardens unit on July 13, 2022.

There, they found 11.221 grams of “crystal substance” later revealed to be 8.49g of pure meth worth $4500-$5500 along with used syringes and digital scales.

Hartigan pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, possessing unsecured syringes and failing to comply with police direction to provide access to electronically stored information.

She was sentenced to three years in jail, wholly suspended and operational for five years.

Hartigan was also placed on probation for three years.

Convictions were recorded.

D’Arcy, a mother of two, was busted with methamphetamine, cannabis and diazepam, a glass pipe and a bong, and a schedule four medicine during a hotel drug raid.

She pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on October 18, 2023, to three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing drug utensils, and one count of possessing a restricted medicine.

The court heard these charges stemmed from incidents in Gladstone prior to D’Arcy getting a four-month wholly suspended jail sentence (for 10 months) in the District Court in August 2023 for supplying dangerous drugs.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan convicted D’Arcy of these offences and did not further punish her.

Convictions were recorded.

Vassallo, a mother of two, attempted to bring a package with drugs, including methamphetamine, into Capricornia Correctional Centre when visiting Tapim, a young father.

Crown prosecutor Kathryn Walker said Vassallo attended the prison with a hidden parcel for a “contact visit” with Tapim on September 16, 2022, but was told she could only have a “no contact visit” after failing a routine drug scan.

The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Vassallo left to put the parcel in the glove box of her car and returned and spoke to Tapim.

Ms Walker said police were called and searched Vassallo’s car, finding a parcel in the glove box which contained 1.362g of meth, 75 buprenorphine strips and a syringe.

Tapim and Vassallo pleaded guilty on October 4, 2023, to charges including supplying dangerous drugs.

Tapim was sentenced to five years prison with parole eligibility on September 25, 2024 and 251 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.

Vassallo was sentenced to two years prison, wholly suspended for two years.

JACOB STEPHEN CONWAY, 23

Conway, a young dad, trafficked drugs for seven months, adding meth to his business just weeks after an initial search by police.

Between October 2021 and May 2022 Conway ran his “unsophisticated” drug trafficking business, predominantly dealing marijuana.

The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard most of Conway’s trafficking was at “street level”, but on some occasions he sold marijuana for “onselling”.

Conway’s home was searched in February 2022 and there was then a break in Conway’s trafficking until April, when he then also sold methamphetamine for a period of three weeks.

An analysis of Conway’s phone showed he supplied marijuana on 73 occasions and meth on 12.

Conway pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, possessing marijuana and possessing more than 2g of meth.

He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with an immediate parole release as 508 days of presentence custody was declared as time already served.

Pope, a father of six, supplied drugs to his friends between February 13 and March 15, 2022.

The self-confessed drug addict started chroming as a juvenile before graduating to methamphetamines, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on May 31, 2023.

Justice Graeme Crow said the supplies were revealed when police intercepted Pope driving on High St on March 16, 2022 in relation to another incident.

Police seized three mobile phones from Pope and he told police one belonged to him and gave them the code to unlock it.

He also admitted police would find “instances of drug supplies” but not all were supplied by him.

Justice Crow said there was no evidence of significant profit from the supplies to nine people.

Pope pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to 10 counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

He was sentenced to two years prison, cumulative on the two years’ jail he received in February, with parole eligibility on November 30, 2023.

Pattenden, a father, was involved in the armed robbery of Raffles Hotel in North Rockhampton on December 29, 2021, and trafficked methamphetamine and marijuana to support his addiction and pay off his drug debt.

Pattenden trafficked the drugs at a street level for just over two months between December 2021 and March 2022.

Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said Pattenden supplied drugs 43 times over that period and relied on an associate he was staying with at the time who sourced drugs.

Mr Keast said Pattenden’s trafficking business came to a halt when the house he was staying at was searched by police on March 8, 2022.

Pattenden pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on May 24 one count each of armed robbery and trafficking dangerous drugs.

He also pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing tainted property and one count each of possessing utensils or pipes for use and contravening direction or requirement of a police officer.

He was sentenced to nine years prison, with parole eligibility on December 7, 2024 and 442 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.

DRUG DRIVING

GREGORY RONALD ROGINSON, 50

Roginson, a father of three, had methamphetamine and marijuana in his system when he was intercepted while driving along Norman Rd, Norman Gardens, about 5.35pm on March 31.

He also had meth and marijuana in his system in his system when he was again intercepted while driving in Zilzie about 12.34pm on April 11.

Roginson pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to two counts of drug driving.

He was ordered to nine months probation and was disqualified from driving for six months.

Jubb, a meth-using mum who previously received a partially-suspended prison term for drug trafficking in March 2023, fronted court again for two counts of drug driving.

She faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court after being busted drug driving twice – once while demerit point suspended, unlicensed, possessing methamphetamines and glass pipes.

Police prosecutor Mirren Smith said Jubb was intercepted driving a black Mercedes sedan on Stanley Street on November 18, 2023, at 8.05pm and her salvia tested positive for meth.

Jubb was again intercepted, this time on Alma Street in Rockhampton City, on April 7 at 8.57pm, with meth in her system.

Magistrate Cameron Press placed Jubb on probation for 18-months and disqualified her from driving for a year.

Convictions were recorded.

Boland, a mother of three, was caught behind the wheel with both methamphetamine and cannabis in her system on February 2.

She pleaded guilty in a Central Queensland magistrates court to drug driving and unlicensed driving – her fifth drug driving offence in the past five years.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Boland $1000 and disqualified her from driving for nine months.

ARSON

NICHOLAS ADAM HEALY, 32

Healy, a father of four, had told police his addiction to methamphetamines had “spiralled out of control” when he went on a crime spree in 2022.

He gained access to Rockhampton Auto Group premises in May 2022 and took two sets of keys from a lockbox – for a $70,000 Holden Commodore as well as a $40,000 HiLux.

Police managed to seize the Commodore when Healy was not using it, but the drug addict later found it parked inside Fitzroy Towing’s Parkhurst yard.

Healy stole a front end loader to ram open the towing yard’s gates and retrieve the 2017 Commodore.

He then torched the loader to try to destroy his fingerprints, causing $150,000 of damage and destroying the cabin.

Healy pleaded guilty in the District Court at Rockhampton to arson, enter premises with intent, armed robbery, wilful damage, unlawful use of a motor vehicle used to commit an indictable offence, failing to appear in court, possessing explosives, receiving tainted property, possessing a weapon and possessing a knife in public.

He also pleaded guilty to three counts of enter a premise and committing an indictable offence and three unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He received a five-year prison term head sentence with immediate parole eligibility, with 363 days of presentence custody declared as time already served.

Geehoy, a mother of two, was living in a Department of Housing residence on Hospital Road, Emerald, when she set fire to her home while high on methamphetamines, drunk and after threatening self harm following an argument with her former partner.

The fire, which was lit on June 13, 2021, totally destroyed the structure, causing $221,953.80 in damages.

Geehoy pleaded guilty in Emerald District Court to one count of arson and was sentenced to three years’ prison.

Wilkinson, father-of-three who had used methamphetamine since he was 15 years old, brutally assaulted his 68-year-old mother.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard Wilkinson assaulted his mother in Rockhampton on June 5, grabbing her by the back of the head, punching her head twice and spitting in her face.

Wilkinson pleaded guilty to assaulting a person over 60.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale sentenced Wilkinson to 12 months prison, wholly suspended for 12 months.

A criminal conviction was recorded.

Richardson, a grandmother and mother of four who uses methamphetamine regularly, found herself in prison after she assaulted her daughter.

Richardson assaulted her daughter at Biloela, one hour and 45 minutes south of Rockhampton, on April 3.

The assault involved Richardson punching her adult daughter in the face and pulling her hair, Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard on July 16.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale said the victim suffered bruises.

Richardson pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and stealing.

Ms Beckinsale sentenced Richardson to nine months prison, declared 101 days of presentence custody as time served and gave her immediate parole.

Row Row, a soon-to-be mother-of-two, had been self-medicating with methamphetamines and alcohol to numb the pain of grief from a miscarriage and family conflict, a court heard.

Row Row was sentenced in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 31 for a brazen daylight knife attack on a young woman sitting in a car’s passenger seat that involved the vehicle being sideswiped and chased to a shopping centre along with an assault on her own cousin on the Fitzroy Riverbank, stealing alcohol and perfume, contravening police direction and a raft of driving offences.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing and two of disqualified driving, along with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, threaten violence with intent to intimidate, wilful damage, fail to appear in court and contravene police direction to attend a police station and provide identifying particulars.

She was sentenced to 2.5 years prison with 50 days presentence custody declared as time already served and parole release set for October 10, 2024.

Row Row was also disqualified from driving for 4.5 years.

Masso, a mother, had been using methamphetamine at the time she spat in a police officer’s face and bashed a woman with a fence paling.

Masso pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 24 to numerous charges, including two counts of seriously assaulting police by biting or spitting, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, wilful damage of police property, stealing and disqualified driving.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Masso to 15 months’ jail with a parole release date of May 24, 2024.

She also disqualified Masso from driving for two years.

Convictions were recorded.

Robinson, a father of five and methamphetamines addict, placed his hands around his pregnant partner’s throat following an argument and “pushed her” with his “forehead” so forcefully into a wall it cracked.

He pleaded guilty in a Rockhampton court on September 18, 2023, to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and wilful damage, and was sentenced to two years prison, 186 days presentence custody declared as time served and immediate parole.

He was on three suspended sentences at the time of offending and the operational periods of each were extended by six months.

A woman struggled to breathe as she was dragged down the hallway of her home by Hill, a father of three, who had violently assaulted her while on methamphetamine and accused her of cheating on him.

Hill pleaded guilty in the District Court at Rockhampton on June 2, 2023, to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, choking and offence to deal with prohibited substances.

Judge Jeff Clarke sentenced Hill to 3.5 years’ prison, with parole eligibility on July 6 and declared 383 days of pre-sentence custody as time already served.

DANGEROUS OPERATION OF A VEHICLE

GLYNN ROWAN OATES, 34

Oates, a dad who started using the drug ice after suffering a back injury, was on parole when he dangerously operated a vehicle in Berserker on June 19, dragging a police officer who was trying to stop him 30 metres and doing a U-turn across traffic.

Oates was also unlicensed at the time and driving a vehicle that was uninsured, unregistered and had false number plates.

He was also charged with driving without a licence in Park Avenue on May 8.

Oates pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to dangerous operation of a vehicle, three counts of driving without a licence, and one count each of contravening a direction or requirement of a police officer, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving a vehicle with false registration plates, possessing utensils or pipes for use and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

Ms Beckinsale sentenced Oates to 18 months prison, declared 23 days of presentence custody as time served and ordered he be eligible for parole on December 19, 2024.

He was disqualified from driving for two years.

DISHONESTY OFFENDING

CRAIG ADAM WOODROW, 44

Woodrow, a meth-using father of two, committed a nine-month stealing spree in Central Queensland.

Gladstone Magistrates Court heard Woodrow’s stealing spree happened between October last year and June this year, with his thefts ranging from $20 worth of products to $370.

He stole once from Supercheap Auto Gladstone, putting two jump starters down his pants and leaving the store without paying.

He also stole once from Chemist Warehouse Gladstone, putting a beard trimmer and a can of deodorant down his pants.

He stole three times from Woolworths Kin Kora, taking items including candy bars and meat.

And he targeted Bunnings Gladstone four times, flogging items including hydrochloric acid, a welder, soldering iron, hammer and a butane lighter.

Woodrow pleaded guilty on September 4 to charges including nine counts of stealing and three counts of breaching bail.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan sentenced Woodrow to 56 days’ jail, declared 56 days’ pre-sentence custody as time already served, and fixed immediate parole eligibility.

Convictions were recorded.

Gilligan, a mother who developed a methamphetamine habit after her three-year-old daughter with spina bifida passed away two years ago, did not pay for $100 worth of lash extensions.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard Gilligan also did not pay for fuel, stole a Ryobi blower that she pawned, drove with meth in her system, drove on three occasions while demerit point suspended and failed to appear in court.

Gilligan pleaded guilty on June 28 to four counts of stealing, two counts of fraud, three counts each of driving while demerit point disqualified, and failing to appear in court, and one count each of assaulting a police officer, drug driving, and breaching bail.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert sentenced Gilligan to four months prison for the stealing and fraud charges.

Gilligan was sentenced to one-month prison, to be served at the same time, for the assaulting a police officer and driving while demerit point disqualified charges.

She was sentenced to one-month prison, to be served on top of the other sentence, for two of the failure to appear charges.

She was convicted and not further punished for the drug driving, breaching bail and one of the failure to appear charges.

Ms Kahlert declared 22 days presentence custody as time already served and set parole release at July 8, 2024.

Gilligan was also ordered to pay $100 restitution and was disqualified from driving for 21 months.

Costello, a Capricorn Coast mother of five, started her offending career late in life after becoming addicted to methamphetamines eight years ago.

She carried out a spate of offences in Yeppoon and Rockhampton between June 21, 2023 and April 29, 2024.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said Costello, a male adult and a female juvenile stole $5767.90 of goods from Bunnings in Yeppoon on December 16, 2023.

He said the juvenile was not charged, but warned, and the adult co-offender was charged but their matters were still before the court.

Costello also stole $330 worth of goods from the Reject shop, two cartons of Coke from Woolworth, two perfumes from Priceline and $508.33 of items from Chemist Warehouse Rockhampton.

Costello pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 31 to six counts of stealing, 18 of breaching her bail conditions and one of trespass.

She was sentenced to six months prison, wholly suspended with an operational period of 18 months.

Costello was also placed on an 18 month probation order and ordered to pay $3392.28 restitution.

Convictions were recorded.

ROBERT CHRISTOPHER KENT, 49

Kent, a father of two who had a methamphetamine problem and history of stealing, targeted Woolworths Kin Kora on two occasions.

The first was on April 29 last year when he filled a trolley with about $700 worth of items and left through the store’s entrance without paying.

Then days later, on May 7, he went back there and filled a trolley with $1014 worth of goods, however, this time a member of the public apprehended Kent and that person returned the trolley full of items to the store.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Kent, when questioned by police, told them he “spends all his money funding his drug addiction and he has no choice but to steal food.”

Kent pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to two counts of stealing and one count of failing to appear.

Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Kent $250 and ordered he pay $700 restitution.

Convictions were recorded.

McDonald, a dad who started using methamphetamines when he was 30, was sentenced in October 2023 for 27 charges following a series of thefts at mines and businesses and was then charged by police more than a week later for offences stemming from the wire sales.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale sentenced McDonald on October 6 to 18 months’ jail, declared 64 days presentence custody as time served with immediate release on parole.

However, it was revealed on February 28 that police didn’t charge McDonald for dishonestly gaining money from the copper wire which he stole from a business in Park Avenue until October 18.

McDonald pleaded guilty to the fresh five counts of dishonesty gaining cash on February 28.

The court heard McDonald sold 145kg of copper wire across five days in February and April in 2023, gaining $1596.30 cash.

Ms Beckinsale convicted him of the offences but ordered no further punishment be imposed.

The convictions were recorded.
