A father-of-six previously jailed for being a getaway driver in a violent home invasion and a prison riot in 2019 will spend more time in prison after supplying drugs to his mates.

Alastaire Bevan Pope, 34, has a “very disturbing” 16-page criminal record including convictions for violence, drugs and property offending.

The self-confessed drug addict started chroming as a juvenile before graduating to methamphetamines, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on May 31.

Pope was sentenced in Rockhampton Magistrates Court in February for dangerous operation of motor vehicle and fuel drive off offences after failing to stop for police and reaching speeds of 100km/h on Musgrave Street and High Street, which are 60km/h zones.

He was on parole for the home invasion at the time.

Defence barrister Julie Marsden said her client had been working at a mining services business before his incarceration and should be able to return to work when released from custody.

She said he supplied drugs to his friends.

Justice Graeme Crow said the supplies, which took place February 13 – March 15 in 2022, were revealed when police intercepted Pope driving on High Street on March 16, 2022 in relation to another incident.

Police seized three mobile phones from Pope and he told police one belonged to him and gave them the code to unlock it.

He also admitted police would find “instances of drug supplies” but not all were supplied by him.

Justice Crow said there was no evidence of significant profit from the supplies to nine people.

The court heard Pope’s parents separated when he was young and he grew up witnessing violence and lacked parental supervision.

Justice Crow commented that Pope’s criminal history was “very disturbing” for someone his age.

“It’s quite enormous,” he said.

“It’s quite troubling.

“You are, at the age of 34, where you can turn the corner.”

Pope pleaded guilty to 10 counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

He was sentenced to two years prison, cumulative on the two years’ jail he received in February.

Pope will be eligible for parole on November 30, 2023.
