A methamphetamines addict who placed his hands around his pregnant partner’s throat following an argument and “pushed her” with his “forehead” so forcefully into a wall it cracked has been sentenced for his actions.

Scott Glenn Arthur Robinson, 38, didn’t get away ‘scot-free’ as his victim fought back, punching him many times, a Rockhampton court heard.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert, during Robinson’s sentencing on September 18, said his offending towards his partner, who recently gave birth to in the past few weeks, on March 16 was “really concerning”.

The pair had been arguing at a Depot Hill residence when Robinson approached his partner on external stairs and pushed her his forehead.

“She was fearful and tried to push you back,” Ms Kahlert said.

When Robinson again pushed his partner with his forehead she was slammed into a wall and it cracked.

He then grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against the wall and squeezed the side of her neck.

“She threw some punches to try and free herself,” Ms Kahlert said.

The victim eventually escaped for a short time until Robinson grabbed her again by the throat and squeezed as she fell onto the couch.

The victim told Robinson to stop before he put all of his weight on her for about one minute while trying to take her phone.

When he got her phone, he released his grip.

“That is a disgraceful thing to do,” Ms Kahlert said.

She said even though photographs supplied to the court were in black and white, it was clear there were marks left on the victim’s neck from this incident.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Robinson grew up in Bathurst with his mother until he was 12 before moving in with his father and living in Newcastle.

She said he started using marijuana when he was about 13 years old and moved on to methamphetamines when he was 18 or 19.

Ms Legrady said he was two years into a three-year carpenter apprenticeship when he lost his job due to his meth addiction, which he had been trying to address in the recent years through Lives Lived Well.

She said the father of five who has a five-page criminal record has a job waiting for him when he is released from prison.

Robinson pleaded guilty to one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and wilful damage, and was sentenced to two years prison, 186 days presentence custody declared as time served and immediate parole.

He was on three suspended sentences at the time of offending and the operational periods of each were extended by six months.
