There have been more than 1000 drug offences recorded on the Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast in 2023.

In the past year, there have been more than 1000 drug offences recorded in the Rockhampton and Livingstone local government areas.
Queensland Police Service data shows there were 962 drug offences committed in the Rockhampton region, and a further 127 offences in Livingstone.
The data revealed drug offending peaked in July and August, with 100 and 106 drug offences recorded respectively.
The most common time of the day for offenders to be busted was at 9am, with 84 offences recorded, while Friday was the day when most offences occurred overall.
Burnett Street in Berserker recorded an alarming 24 drug crimes on the residential stretch, while Phillips Street also recorded 13 offences.
The corner of East and William streets recorded 23 offences.
There were also 12 drug offences recorded at Capricornia Correctional Centre.
On the Capricorn Coast, there were no significant drug offence clusters.
One of the biggest hot spots was James Street, Yeppoon, with seven offences.
Here are the 32 offenders who have been sentenced for drug trafficking or supplying in 2023:
CONVICTIONS RECORDED
DE-ELLE SHAE RANDALL, 27
Randall used Snapchat and Facebook Messenger to arrange drug sales with her customers.
The Supreme Court at Rockhampton heard on December 21 police had intelligence that Randall was dealing amphetamine, methamphetamine and cocaine at East Street in Rockhampton.
Police seized Randall’s phone and on it they found Snapchat and Facebook Messenger communications that showed she was dealing drugs.
The court was told that during an eight day period in 2022, Randall supplied more than $2800 worth of meth to one customer who himself was also dealing drugs.
To another customer, Randall supplied 10.5g of meth for $2000, the court heard.
It was told that a tick sheet of Randall’s showed she was owed money by seven different customers, at one stage.
A tick sheet also confirmed that Randall made $5100 worth of sales in a one week period.
Randall pleaded guilty to charges including six counts of supplying dangerous drugs and trafficking.
She was sentenced to three years’ jail with immediate parole eligibility.
DARRYN JOHN WEBBER, 42
Webber trafficked meth and cocaine for 11 days between April 14 and April 25, 2021.
The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Webber had been operating a wholesale level drug trafficking business with an associate and they sourced ounces of meth.
Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said the pair spoke about pooling $100,000 to source drugs and they arranged a supply of 10 ounces of meth.
Mr Keast said they also conducted a drug run.
The court heard the drug trafficking operation was sophisticated, with encrypted applications, such as Wickr, being used to communicate with associates.
Webber pleaded guilty on December 20 to possessing a dangerous drug in excess of 2g, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime defined in Part 2.
Justice Graeme Crow sentenced Webber to 4.5 years prison, with parole eligibility on December 29, 2024 and declared 51 days of pre-sentence custody as time already served.
BEAU JAMES CLARKE, 35
Clarke supplied drugs, including cocaine, nine times and was busted in possession of 660g of marijuana.
Police searched the father-of-four’s residence on March 11, 2022, seizing his mobile phone and finding the marijuana, along with two clip-seal bags of 0.845g of cocaine.
Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said evidence showed Clarke supplied 7g of marijuana four times, 3g of marijuana once and cocaine four times, weighing 0.5g, 0.4g, 1.75g and an unknown amount.
Mr Keast said it was alleged the marijuana was for both personal use and commercial.
Clarke pleaded guilty in the District Court in Rockhampton on December 5 to nine counts of supplying drugs, one of possessing over 500g of a schedule two drug, one of possessing anything used in a crime and one of possessing a dangerous drug.
A three-month suspended sentence handed down in Rockhampton Magistrates Court in September 2021 was activated to run concurrently with a two-year prison term for the latest offences.
Clarke’s parole release was set for May 6, 2024.
CLINTON JOHN BURNS, 41
Prison guards at Capricornia Correctional Centre spotted a drug parcel thrown over the prison’s fence on July 10, 2022 and Burns ran to grab it, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard on November 9.
Burns was remanded in the prison at Etna Creek when phone conversations and text messages between Burns and a woman were intercepted by police engaged in Operation Uniform Wilton.
Justice Graeme Crow said Burns advised the woman the “needed a runner” on July 8, 2022, and over the next few days the pair “devised a plan to get drugs and other paraphernalia into the prison by throwing a parcel at an arranged time and date”.
He said Burns admitted to the woman he had received 300 (buprenorphine) strips in the past week and “I haven’t got it all in my bank but I’ve given it to f---ing certain people and I’ll end up making 56 grand off it”.
Inside the parcel, police located a clip seal bag containing 2.959g of pure methamphetamines in 3.889g of substance, 4g of marijuana in another clip seal bag, 113 buprenorphine strips, three tobacco pouches, papers, filters, syringes, a mobile phone and phone charger.
A month later, Burns, who was held in a detention unit, was found in possession of 10 suboxone strips.
Burns pleaded guilty on November 9 to two counts of supplying drugs in a prison, one of possessing a restricted drug and one of causing prohibited items be taken into a prison.
He was sentenced to four years prison with immediate parole eligibility, having served out previous sentences before pleading guilty.
ASHLEY SCOTT MORETON-SMITH, 21
Moreton-Smith trafficked marijuana between July 22, 2021, to May 7, 2022, the District Court in Rockhampton heard on November 16.
Judge Craig Chowdhury said Moreton-Smith had at least 29 customers and made 46 supplies via SMS, Facebook messenger and Snapchat between July and 11 February, 2022.
Judge Chowdhury said Moreton-Smith would carry out his supplies at the North Rockhampton Red Rooster store and an IGA store.
Moreton-Smith pleaded guilty to one of trafficking drugs and one of possessing more than 500g of a schedule two drug.
Judge Chowdhury sentenced 2.5 years prison, suspended after serving three days, declared three days presentence custody as time served.
The suspended sentence is operational for 2.5 years.
DARRIUS IZIAH JAMAS MANN, 27
Mann was caught supplying cocaine at the Lost and Found Music Festival in Rockhampton.
Crown prosecutor Caleb Theunissen said police were patrolling the music festival on October 15, 2022 when they saw suspicious behaviour outside the men’s toilets and spoke with a man who told them he had paid Mann $350 for 1g of cocaine.
Mann pleaded guilty in the District Court in Rockhampton on October 26 to supplying dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing tainted property.
Judge Jeff Clarke sentenced Mann to eight months prison, wholly suspended for 12 months.
KARL EDWARD ANTHONY MATHESON, 35
Matheson supplied a woman with 5g of methamphetamine for $2500 on April 4, 2022.
The District Court in Rockhampton heard police intercepted Matheson’s arrangements to meet with a woman they were already surveilling and the deal itself was captured on CCTV near the cinema in North Rockhampton.
Crown prosecutor Ken Spinaze said the drug was 60 per cent pure and that it was unknown to what extent Matheson profited from the drug supply.
Matheson pleaded guilty to one count each of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and possessing property suspected of having been acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence.
He was sentenced to one year and nine months in jail, suspended for two years after serving four months.
JACOB STEPHEN CONWAY, 23
Conway trafficked drugs for seven months, adding meth to his business just weeks after an initial search by police.
Between October 2021 and May 2022 Conway ran his “unsophisticated” drug trafficking business, predominantly dealing marijuana.
The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard most of Conway’s trafficking was at “street level”, but on some occasions he sold marijuana for “onselling”.
Conway’s home was searched in February 2022 and there was then a break in Conway’s trafficking until April, when he then also sold methamphetamine for a period of three weeks.
An analysis of Conway’s phone showed he supplied marijuana on 73 occasions and meth on 12.
Conway pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, possessing marijuana and possessing more than 2g of meth.
He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with an immediate parole release as 508 days of presentence custody was declared as time already served.
ACE DAVID DRAHEIM, 31
Draheim supplied or arranged to supply marijuana and meth on four occasions between July 21 and 27, 2022.
The drug supplies included an offer to supply 1g of marijuana, an arrangement to supply 0.5g of meth, the actual supply of 0.3g of meth for $220 and an arrangement to supply 0.5g of meth for $360 on July 27, 2022, which did not happen because he was intercepted by police.
Draheim pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to four counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing anything used in the commission of crime, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possessing tainted property, unlawfully possessing weapons and breaching a bail condition.
He was sentenced to two years prison with parole release on May 13, 2024.
AARON CHRISTOPHER PENNEY, 29
Penney supplied methamphetamine 11 times and marijuana once between July 21, 2022 and August 16, 2022.
Justice Graeme Crow said the largest supply was an offer to sell 1.2g of meth on August 15, 2022.
Penney pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on August 31 to 12 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs in excess of 2g and possessing property obtained from supplying.
He was sentenced to 2.5 years prison, with immediate parole and 379 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.
HAYDN GEOFFREY KLEIDON, 29
Kleidon sold wholesale amounts of cocaine, MDMA and marijuana.
Bank records revealed Kleidon received $19,860 in cash deposits during the trafficking period of April 23, 2021, to November 20, 2021.
An encrypted message on one of his phones revealed Kleidon was “moving about three ounces (85g) a week and owed $8,000-$9,000 on tick”, Justice Graeme Crow said.
Kleidon pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to one count of trafficking drugs, two of possessing more than 2g of a schedule one drug, six of possessing a dangerous drug, two of possessing anything used in connected to drugs, one of possessing more than 500g of marijuana, one of failing to provide access to electronically stored information, one of possessing tainted property, two of possessing drug utensils, two of possessing a category R weapon, one of possessing property suspected of being used in a drug offence, and one of possessing property suspected of being drug trafficking proceeds.
Justice Crow sentenced Kleidon to seven years prison, declared 570 days presentence custody as time served and set parole eligibility for February 28, 2024.
HAYDEN SCOTT MILES WEICK, 24
Weick committed seven counts of supplying a dangerous drug while he was on probation for producing marijuana.
The District Court in Rockhampton heard police raided Weick’s residence on July 14, 2022 and found a mobile phone containing messages regarding the street level drug supplies of 7g or less between April 21, 2022 and July 3, 2022.
Weick pleaded guilty to one count of producing a dangerous drug, seven counts of supplying a dangerous drug, one of possessing anything used in a crime and one of possessing a dangerous drug.
He was ordered to probation for 18 months.
TYLER JESS GRANT, 24
Grant trafficked marijuana and MDMA for six months and advertised drugs on Snapchat.
Justice Graeme Crow said Grant bought drugs on the dark web and Wickr between October 31, 2021, and May 13, 2022, and had 10 regular customers.
Grant pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on June 1 to one count of trafficking dangerous drugs.
He also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime defined in Part 2, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property obtained from trafficking and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.
He was sentenced to three years prison with immediate parole.
CAYTLIN ROSE A’HERNE, 32, AND RAYMOND SHANE DELLER, 30
A’herne and Deller plotted to smuggle drugs, including methamphetamine, into Capricornia Correctional Centre.
Crown prosecutor Jodi Brown said suspicions arose when a prisoner suffered an injury to his hand at Capricornia Correctional Centre on March 25, 2022, which required him to be transported to Rockhampton Hospital.
Deller called A’Herne and told her the “eagle had left the nest”.
Ms Brown said staff at Capricornia Correctional Centre reviewed phone conversations between A’Herne, Deller and a co-offender, who allegedly discussed the supply of suboxone and meth to a prisoner.
“Deller and A’Herne discussed splitting everything down the middle,” Ms Brown said.
She said Deller procured the supply and made the arrangements while A’Herne did the leg work, collecting and packaging the drugs and driving the co-offender to the hospital.
A’herne and Deller both pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on May 23 to two counts of supplying dangerous drugs to a person within a correctional facility.
A’herne also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing utensils or pipes for use, and one count each of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime defined in Part 2 and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.
She was sentenced to two years prison, with parole release after serving 159 days, which was pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.
Deller was sentenced to 18 months prison, cumulative on the sentence he was already serving, and parole eligibility on September 22.
JAMES ROBERT PATTENDEN, 35
Pattenden trafficked meth and marijuana at a street level for just over two months between December 2021 and March 2022.
Crown prosecutor Cameron Keast said Pattenden supplied drugs 43 times over that period and relied on an associate he was staying with at the time who sourced drugs.
Mr Keast said Pattenden’s trafficking business came to a halt when the house he was staying at was searched by police on March 8, 2022.
Pattenden pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on May 24 one count each of armed robbery and trafficking dangerous drugs.
He also pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing tainted property and one count each of possessing utensils or pipes for use and contravening direction or requirement of a police officer.
He was sentenced to nine years prison, with parole eligibility on December 7, 2024 and 442 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.
ALASTAIRE BEVAN POPE, 34
Pope supplied drugs to his friends between February 13 and March 15, 2022.
Justice Graeme Crow said the supplies were revealed when police intercepted Pope driving on High Street on March 16, 2022 in relation to another incident.
Police seized three mobile phones from Pope and he told police one belonged to him and gave them the code to unlock it.
He also admitted police would find “instances of drug supplies” but not all were supplied by him.
Justice Crow said there was no evidence of significant profit from the supplies to nine people.
Pope pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to 10 counts of supplying a dangerous drug and one of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.
He was sentenced to two years prison, cumulative on the two years’ jail he received in February, with parole eligibility on November 30, 2023.
BRETT JOHN GUNDRY, 57
Gundry trafficked cocaine and more than 76kg of marijuana across state borders to Rockhampton.
He pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on May 22 to one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.
He was sentenced to five years prison, suspended for an operational period of five years after serving 137 days, which was pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.
GENE LOUIS RICHARDSON, 38
Richardson trafficked cocaine, MDMA and LSD to 83 contacts suspected to be his customers and suppliers from April to October 2021 using encrypted apps.
Messages on Richardson’s mobile phones showed he received 1560 LSD tablets, 56g of MDMA, 1000 tablets of MDMA and 696g of cocaine during the trafficking period.
There were also messages about supplying magic mushrooms and supplying $178,000 worth of drugs on tick.
Richardson pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to trafficking drugs, possessing more than 2g of a schedule one drug, and three counts of supplying drugs.
He was sentenced to eight years prison with parole eligibility on November 13, 2024.
BENJAMIN ANTON SORENSEN, 39
Sorensen was the target of police operation Tango Negative, which uncovered his drug trafficking business through phone intercepts.
Between June and September 2021 Sorensen ran a “street to wholesale” level meth and MDMA trafficking business with a customer base of 20, supplying to them 29 times.
Sorensen was usually paid by customers upfront or through sexual acts, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard.
Sorensen pleaded guilty on April 28 to a number of offences including drug trafficking, possessing a dangerous drug in excess of 2g, attempting to pervert the course of justice, possessing property obtained by trafficking, unlawful supply of a category H weapon and possessing anything used in the commission of trafficking of drugs.
He was sentenced to a five years prison, with immediate parole eligibility and 588 days declared as time already served.
DEAN MICHAEL INGRA, 34
A search of Ingra’s mobile phone on July 8, 2021 revealed the Gladstone man had been supplying methamphetamine to people.
“The amounts were street level amounts – there were nine actual supplies and four offers to supply,” Judge Tony Moynihan said in the District Court at Gladstone on May 9.
Ingra pleaded guilty to 13 counts of supplying meth, and one count each of possessing meth and GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate).
Judge Moynihan sentenced Ingra to two years prison and set his parole eligibility date at June 18, 2023 and declared 111 days pre-sentence custody as time already served.
ED WESTPHAL, 48
Westphal trafficked drugs across Hervey Bay and Rockhampton and inside the Capricornia Correctional Centre.
He was the head of a jail drug trafficking ring which had its base at Booral near Hervey Bay, and had previously trafficked drugs from March 2019 to June 2019, supplying methamphetamine on 65 occasions to 40 customers.
Westphal went on to traffic drugs while in Capricornia Correctional Centre from June 30, 2019 to March 28, 2020.
The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Westphal had hoped to gain a monopoly of the state’s jail drug trade.
Westphal pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking drugs, possessing more than 2g of a schedule one drug and eight counts of supplying a drug.
He was sentenced to 12 years prison, which the law states he must serve 80 per cent before being eligible for parole and 1664 days presentence custody was declared as time served.
JACINTA MAREE PEARSON, 37
Pearson trafficked drugs at street level to about 40 customers between December 25, 2021, and April 5, 2022.
She had eight suppliers and always paid upfront, the Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard.
Between Australia Day and March 5, 2022, Pearson made 23 supplies with the total weights of drugs supplied being 59.95g of meth and 301g of marijuana.
She supplied meth to undercover police on two occasions.
Pearson pleaded guilty on May 9 to one count of trafficking drugs, two counts of possessing more than 2g of a schedule one drug and one of possessing a thing used to traffick drugs.
She also pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing drugs, possessing drug utensils, obstructing police, assaulting police, possessing tainted property and possessing property suspected used in a drug offence.
Pearson was sentenced to three years prison with 260 days presentence custody declared as time already served and released immediately on parole.
BIANCA LEIGH SERIO, 31
Serio trafficked methamphetamine across the Rockhampton region between November 20, 2020 and February 1, 2021, under the direction of Darren Burnell.
Crown prosecutor Caleb Theunissen said Burnell supplied 51.85g of methamphetamine across 34 occasions to 24 customers for about $34,400.
Mr Theunissen said in addition to Serio, Burnell had six other dealers operating under him.
Burnell pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to charges including trafficking dangerous drugs and was sentenced to five years’ prison, suspended after serving two years and operational for five years.
Serio supplied drugs four times including the preparation to supply MDMA, an unknown amount of marijuana for $17,000, 3.5g of meth, and another unknown quantity of meth.
She pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on April 20 for trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing a thing used in connection with trafficking dangerous drugs, contravening order about device information from digital device, possessing dangerous drugs and two counts of supplying dangerous drugs.
She was sentenced to three years prison with immediate parole and 129 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time already served.
TIFFANY KAREN ANNE KING, 27
King carried out 89 supplies of marijuana worth about $8660 to 30 customers between July 21 and September 24, 2021.
Crown prosecutor Bianca Volling said King would contact customers when she had drugs.
Ms Volling said police discovered the extent of her trafficking business when they raided her Lakes Creek home on September 23, 2021.
King pleaded guilty in the District Court in Rockhampton on April 24 to one count of trafficking drugs, one of producing drugs, one of possessing drugs and one of possessing property used in a drug crime.
She also pleaded guilty to possessing drug utensils, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and four of supplying illicit drugs to a minor.
She was sentenced to two years prison with immediate release on parole.
BENJAMIN MICHEAL WILLIAMS, 41
Williams trafficked dangerous drugs for eight months between March 12, 2020 and November 26, 2020 at Mackay.
The Supreme Court in Rockhampton heard Williams trafficked meth and cocaine, both of those at a wholesale level, and that he also trafficked ecstasy and marijuana, with the marijuana at a much lower level.
Chief Justice Helen Bowskill said Williams transported drugs to Mackay, or arranged for drugs to be transported to Mackay, mostly from the Gold Coast.
Chief Justice Bowskill said Williams sold meth in ounce quantities to 10 people who then ran their own independent trafficking businesses.
Williams pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on April 17 to charges including trafficking dangerous drugs.
He was sentenced to 9.5 years prison, with parole eligibility on January 24, 2024 and 873 days of pre-sentence custody declared as time served.
BILLI-JAI CAMERON-KNIGHT, 24
Cameron-Knight trafficked cannabis for 4.5 months to 21 customers with 71 supplies, of at least 2.533kg of marijuana and earning at least $28,695.
His trafficking was detected when police raided his place on January 21, 2021, ceasing his phone which contained the messages about drug sales and offers to supply, including five supplies of ecstasy.
He pleaded guilty in the District Court in Rockhampton on March 28 to one count of trafficking drugs, 10 counts of supplying a dangerous drug, along with one count each of possessing a drug, possessing drug utensils, possessing a weapon, possessing a restricted item and possessing tainted property.
He was sentenced to three years prison, suspended after he serves six months and operational for four years.
MICHAEL JOHN CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON, 47
Anderson trafficked a “massive” amount of cannabis across state borders to Rockhampton.
The court heard that sometime before December 6, 2021, Anderson, a Victorian resident, sourced cannabis and cocaine and arranged for Brett John Gundry, 57, to transport the drugs from Anderson’s home state to Koongal, North Rockhampton, in Queensland.
Anderson pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court at Rockhampton on March 17 to drug trafficking, possessing cocaine and cannabis, as well as possessing something used to traffick dangerous drugs.
He was sentenced to six years prison with parole eligibility after he serves 12 months.
ARRON WILLIAM JOHNSTON, 33
Johnston trafficked meth between November 18, 2020 and February 3, 2021.
Johnston’s offending came to light during 12-month police operation Sierra Decompress, which targeted drug trafficking in the Rockhampton region.
He pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on March 9 to one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs in excess of 2g, possessing a thing for use in connection with trafficking dangerous drugs and two counts of damaging evidence with intent.
He was sentenced to four years prison with parole eligibility on March 7, 2024 and 107 days of pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
SOPHIE CLARE SWEETLAND, 25
Sweetland supplied a person with 1.75g of methamphetamine for an unknown price.
She also did things in preparation for selling a “half ball” for $750.
Sweetland pleaded guilty in the District Court at Gladstone on February 27 to two counts of supplying methamphetamine, possessing drug utensils, and contravening an order (in relation to her phone).
She was sentenced to nine months prison with immediate parole.
ROBERT JAMES EVANS, 40
Evans trafficked illicit drugs for three years and nine months.
During the period of offending he carried out more than 300 supplies.
He mostly supplied marijuana to seven customers, but he also supplied methamphetamines twice – on August 17, 2020, and August 4, 2021.
Crown prosecutor Terance McCosker said the extent of his trafficking was revealed when police looked at the content on his phone.
Evans pleaded guilty in the District Court in Rockhampton to one count of drug trafficking.
He was sentenced to three years prison with parole set for December 18, 2023.
GORDON WILLIAM MUNCHOW, 29
Munchow supplied or offered to supply marijuana to an accused drug trafficker six times in under a month.
The supplies took place between August 30, 2021, and September 23, 2021, and involved three actual supplies, two offers to supply and one categorised as an agreement to supply.
Two of the actual supplies were for 112g of marijuana with one exchanged for $1150 cash, while the other actual supply was for an unknown quantity.
Munchow pleaded guilty on February 2 in the District Court in Rockhampton to six counts of supplying a dangerous drug, plus one count each of possessing a dangerous drug, used drug utensils, property suspected used in a drug crime and tainted property.
He was sentenced to 18 months prison, wholly suspended for four years.
