A convicted meth supplier has again been busted dealing, with cops finding a stash of drugs and thousands of dollars in cash during a raid.
Gordon William Munchow supplied or offered to supply marijuana to an accused drug trafficker six times in under a month.
It wasn’t the first time Munchow had been convicted for supplying drugs, with the 29-year-old sentenced in 2018 for supplying methamphetamines to friends.
Defence barrister Scott Moon said his client started using drugs when he was 12 years old.
He said Munchow moved on to meth at just 13, about the time his father was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his fiance, and Munchow’s five-year-old sister died from an epileptic seizure.
Mr Moon said his client was prescribed medical marijuana when he was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, but the prescribed version was too expensive so he turned to the illegal version and supplying it to fund his use.
The supplies took place between August 30, 2021, and September 23, 2021, and involved three actual supplies, two offers to supply and one categorised as an agreement to supply.
Two of the actual supplies were for 112g of marijuana with one exchanged for $1150 cash, while the other actual supply was for an unknown quantity.
Crown prosecutor Caleb Theunissen said some of the 158g of marijuana Munchow had in his possession when police searched his Berserker residence in October 2021 was for personal use and the rest was in a sealed cryovac bag.
The court heard Munchow had four negative drug tests between May 2022 and February 1, 2023.
Mr Moon said his client had undergone significant change since being charged for these offences, attending drug rehabilitation counselling, moving back in with his mother who does not tolerate any drug use, and working full-time as a truck driver for a skip bin hire company.
Judge Jeff Clarke said the evidence made it clear Munchow supplied drugs for financial gain, not to fund his own use.
pleaded guilty on February 2 in Rockhampton District Court to six counts of supplying a dangerous drug, plus one count each of possessing a dangerous drug, used drug utensils, property suspected used in a drug crime and tainted property.
He sentenced Munchow to 18 months’ jail, wholly suspended for four years.
