Jacinta Maree Pearson jailed for meth, marijuana trafficking

A Central Queensland mother of four’s unsophisticated drug trafficking business unravelled when police started intercepting her calls - she even supplied meth to undercover cops.

A drug trafficker busted red-handed possessing methamphetamines spat at a police officer as she called them a pig and was combative with police as they tried to remove the bag of meth clenched in her fist.

Mother-of-four Jacinta Maree Pearson, 37, had jumped a fence to evade police who had arrived at a Berserker residence on November 20, 2021, and found her downstairs with a clipseal bag containing 1.4g of meth clenched in her fist.

She was then on the police’s radar and months later, officers obtained a warrant to intercept her calls, revealing her unsophisticated meth and marijuana trafficking business.

Pearson, who was sentenced in Rockhampton Supreme Court on May 9, trafficked drugs at street level to about 40 customers between December 25, 2021, and April 5, 2022.

She had eight suppliers and always paid upfront, the court heard.

Between Australia Day and March 5, 2022, Pearson made 23 supplies with the total weights of drugs supplied being 59.95g of meth and 301g of marijuana.

She supplied meth to undercover police on two occasions.

Pearson was busted possessing six bags of meth, with a total weight of 38.323g of meth in 54.282g of substance, in her handbag when police attended a Berserker residence on February 11, 2022, seeking to arrest many people on outstanding warrants.

She was also in possession of $6860 cash and drug utensils.

Two months later, police found her in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the driveway of a Nobbs Street residence in possession of 3.213g of meth in 5.33g of substance, the court heard.

Justice Graeme Crow said Pearson resisted arrest and punched a female officer in the stomach before calling her a liar.

He said material before the court showed Pearson, who had a three-page criminal record, “got into drugs” after the relationship in 2016 with the father of her children broke down.

The children currently live with their father in Gladstone.

Pearson pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking drugs, two counts of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug and one of possessing a thing used to traffick drugs.

She also pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing drugs, possessing drug utensils, obstructing police, assaulting police, possessing tainted property and possessing property suspected used in a drug offence.

Pearson was sentenced to three years prison with 260 days presentence custody declared as time already served and released immediately on parole.
