Stunning foreshore position, great selection of ales and cider on tap, smart menu using local ingredients, live music and punters who know they are onto a good thing. Can a pub look smug? When it comes to dining the pub's position opposite a sandy beach screams seafood, so grab the seafood tasting plate - spicy baby octopus, local Pacific oysters (kilpatrick and natural), grilled whiting and spicy fish cakes. The produce is fresh; a bit more seasoning would have made it perfect, and a sizzling pot of garlic prawns could use a heavier hand on the garlic, but it's a quibble.
