We aren’t out of the woods on inflation yet
The arguments put forward about why interest rates should be cut immediately simply do not stack up.
Warren HoganEconomistThere is no compelling case to cut interest rates in Australia. If there was a compelling case, the Reserve Bank board would have done so today. But they didn’t. They didn’t even consider it. Nor should they have.
But the markets and some commentators have characterised the shift in language as a stepping stone to a rate cut in the new year. It may well be. But I am not sure that is what the RBA board intended with the language shift.
