The emphatic 50 basis point interest rate cut from the US Federal Reserve last week officially marks the start of the global monetary policy easing cycle.

This is a historic moment for the international economy. The pandemic inflation has been defeated. Although domestic inflation remains elevated, the big rate reduction signals a high degree of comfort that price rises are coming under control.
