The niche wine that’s perfect with oysters

Steve Feletti farms oysters. Then, in France, he discovered the wine grape that elevates them. Today, his picpoul wines are winning over oyster lovers.

There was a moment, at this year’s Narooma Oyster Festival in May, when oyster-farmer-turned-wine-producer Steve Feletti realised he really might be onto something.

“We were the official wine sponsor for the festival,” says Feletti, whose oyster brand is Moonlight Flat, and whose wine label is Borrowed Cuttings. “We sold 32 dozen bottles of our sparkling picpoul – by the glass – in four hours. We had three card readers going non-stop. One of them blew up. My finger was bleeding from undoing so many wire cages on the bottles.”
