Pope Joan
Contemporary$$
Delicious was what we tweeted when we last ate at the Pope, and we now commit our verdict to print. The menu offers 'Food' all day, with plenty of D-word ingredients: spanner crab, heirloom tomatoes, black pudding, smoked salmon and Cumberland sausage. Finger-lickin' sandwiches feature (a fave: the Cuban of pulled pork and pickles seasoned with peppery kasoundi), and about the only thing over $20 on the menu is a jug of Pimm's. Coffee is a nicely considered complement: an Allpress short black ($3) is molasses-sweet with a gently smoky finish. A smart, warm fitout and a line-up of tasty ingredients - pulled pork, spanner crab, English-style gammon, black pudding and more - keep the hungry crowds coming. The Allpress blend coffee is nicely pitched, too.
