Missing camper killer Greg Lynn’s ‘plum job’ at Melbourne prison

Insight has been given into former pilot and convicted murderer Greg Lynn’s life behind bars after he was attacked by an inmate.

Convicted murderer Greg Lynn has reportedly got himself a coveted prison job and quiet corner cell at Melbourne Assessment Prison while he awaits sentencing — sparking anger from other inmates.

The former Jetstar pilot and missing camper killer demanded the head billets job within his prison unit – “the plum job” – and got “one of the quietist cells in the prison”, a prison source exclusively told the Herald Sun.

The source said it means Lynn runs the food line and directs the other billets to do work.

This insight into his life behind bars comes after Lynn was attacked in prison earlier this month, days after he was found guilty of one count of murder.

Lynn, 57, was found guilty of murdering Carol Clay, 73.

Human faeces was thrown at Lynn by a fellow inmate, Channel 7 reported.

An inmate who knows Ms Clay’s family allegedly asked another inmate to conduct the attack, according to the broadcaster.

Lynn is being held at Melbourne Assessment Prison ahead of sentencing. It is a maximum-security facility in Spencer Street, Melbourne.

Ms Clay and Russell Hill, 74, were on a camping trip in Victoria’s remote high country when they vanished without a trace in March 2020.

Lynn was eventually arrested and charged over their deaths in November 2021.

He claimed their deaths were accidental, but he admitted he had burned their bodies and the crime scene.

The jury deliberated for more than a week before returning a split verdict. Lynn was found not guilty of murdering Mr Hill.

The families of Mr Hill and Ms Clay issued a statement saying they were both “relieved and devastated at the verdicts”.

“We thank the jury for their verdict of guilty in the murder of Carol Clay. It was an extremely difficult task given that the accused destroyed so much evidence,” it read.

The statement said the verdict of not guilty in relation to Mr Hill was “devastating” but acknowledged there was “not enough evidence to be sure of how he died”.

“Our families were always aware that the prosecutor had an enormous burden of proof as there were no eyewitnesses,” the statement read.

“The accused was the only person who saw and experienced what happened. He was also the only person who emerged alive.”
