Report casts doubt on Queensland plan to shrink project costs

A new report has cast doubt on a Queensland government plan to drive down debt by scrapping a system of union-backed entitlements in the building sector after finding it was not the biggest contributor to soaring construction costs on big state projects.

The Liberal-National government paused Best Practice Industry Conditions within weeks of forming government last year and ordered the Queensland Productivity Commission to examine the system’s economic impact.
