From mortgages to mining copper, here’s how big companies are using AI

In Suncorp’s new disaster management centre in Brisbane, a floor-to-roof video screen along a long wall displays weather systems across the country. Each of the insurer’s customers are represented as a coloured dot on the map, which can be zoomed in to show every property in the country.

When a flood comes through – like it did in Taree last month – the satellite-powered maps show the actual water levels at the street-by-street level. After hail storms, the system can show which houses have damaged roofs. This is all powered by artificial intelligence.
