We should be both alert to, and alarmed by, political attacks on central banks and their implementation of monetary policy.

US President Donald Trump’s attacks on Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell have raised concerns over the Fed’s ongoing independence, while the European Central Bank has been criticised over its quantitative easing program.
