Lawyer, former AFL general counsel and self-described introvert Andrew Dillon has launched an audacious plan to drive the game further into the rugby league heartland of NSW and Queensland.

The new CEO of the AFL, Andrew Dillon, may have worked at the league for over 20 years – and held almost every executive job in headquarters – but he admits there is nothing quite like sitting in the CEO’s hot seat.

Before the season even kicks off in Sydney on Thursday night, Dillon – now one of the highest-profile CEOs in the country – faced fresh questions over the game’s approach to concussion, homophobia, racism and drug use.
