Alexis Hurditch is a self-confessed foodie but, as cost-of-living pressures continue to bite and her monthly mortgage repayments have risen by 30 per cent, she has reverted to using meal kits at home.

The data executive and her husband used to cap off a busy week by spending $200 on a nice dinner and bottle of wine at a restaurant, plus another $100 for a babysitter to look after their sons Arlo, 6, and Milen, 9.
