RBNZ governor Adrian Orr has a change of heart

Described during the year as defensive, confrontational and nationalistic, the New Zealand central bank boss has shown himself to be open to compromise.

For most of the past year, as the Reserve Bank of New Zealand consulted on its proposals to jack up bank capital, Adrian Orr, its governor, has been painted as a man to fear.

At various times, he’s been compared to Rowena Orr, the sharp thorn in the banks’ side during the Hayne royal commission. Commentators have described him as autarkic, pugnacious, defensive, confrontational and nationalistic.
