Will BMW’s Neue Klasse range be the game-changing EVs they promise?

The German manufacturer has made multiple claims of wide-ranging improvements on its currently available electric models, but they won’t roll out on Australian streets until at least 2026.

You ain’t seen nothing yet. That’s the message from BMW whenever it talks about its Neue Klasse range of electric vehicles. Announced in 2023, and previewed since then with “Vision” concept cars and information drops, the first production-ready variant will be unveiled in Germany later this year.

In Australia, we’ll have to wait until at least 2026 to buy this model: an SUV about the same size as today’s X3. It will be similar to the Vision X concept shown below, and probably be followed by a sedan roughly the size of the current 3-Series.
