Immerse yourself in Mado’s lavish interior of heavy, ornate timber furniture, Turkish trinkets and walls adorned with patterned rugs and string instruments. Then back away slowly from the pizzas and burgers and go a colourful plate of dips followed by minced lamb any which way you like it: stuffed in a burghul-wheat pocket, formed into patties, shish kebab-ed or piled on a plate with piquant tomato sauce, fried bread cubes and garlic yoghurt. Desserts include sweet and stretchy maras ice-cream made from wild orchid tubers. It’s ‘the only ice-cream in the world eaten with a knife and fork’ and, allegedly, an aphrodisiac.
