FROM across Sydney and the Central Coast, NewsLocal newspapers are defining the most influential people in our communities.

Some are well known to you, the famous Hollywood and TV stars, footballers, Olympians and sports stars, models, musicians, business people, politicians, and the mayors.

But some are hidden influencers and heroes, the nurses, the volunteers, the academics.

They are the people whose opinions and actions we value and watch with sometimes envy, sometimes disdain and disagreement.

They are Sydney’s most influential people and they may be living next door to you.

NORTHERN BEACHES

The Manly Daily has compiled its list from the glamour of the northern beaches. They considered their positions as role models and decision makers, and not just how well they fitted into beach life, and how they looked in a bikini, although that has helped one of the influential.

SOUTH EAST SYDNEY

The Southern Courier compiled its list from the glamour of beach areas as well but also the booming part of its patch to the south. They compiled their list focussing on the movers and shakers who have a profound affect on residents’ everyday lives — from property developers and media powerhouses to hardworking nurses, pub barons and our political leaders.

LOWER NORTH SHORE

The Mosman Daily covers one of the most expensive patches of real estate in Australia. While they looked for personalities and high achievers they also looked for role models and community champions for a rounded list of influencers.

The north shore’s sleepy, leafy demeanour is camouflage for a formidable powerbase. From politicians to authors, cricketers to actors — their patch is home to some of the most successful people in Australia. They had a look at the best and brightest and compiled the area’s 20 most powerful people.

INNER WEST

Their region is full of Sydney’s movers and shakers: from business leaders and influential sports stars and actors to politicians and pioneering academics.

The area is brimming with celebrities that once called the western Sydney suburb home.

Some were here a long time, others only stayed a short time but have left a lasting impression. Others still live here. Regardless, their contribution to Sydney’s west lives on.

They are famous faces across the globe that discovered their talent in our schools.

The team at the Advocate have debated our list of the Hornsby Shire’s most famous alumni, and you may be surprised who we discovered along the way.

After searching far and wide, countless hours of research and deliberation, the Macarthur Chronicle can now start to unveil the region’s top 100 true movers and shakers.

A grand total of 100 of the Macarthur region’s most influential people have been identified, revealing a small portion of the people who make the Macarthur region the greatest place to be.

From politics to sports, from medicine to business, from education to social media, from household names to unsung heroes, the five names to be revealed today have had a profound influence in their respective fields.

While there is countless people in Penrith who make the lives of those around them that much better we wanted to acknowledge the top 20.

We believe we have hit the mark when it comes to the most inspirational people from the are, those who champion causes, who dedicate time or money to acts of good will, who have pushed boundaries and inspire others to do the same.

In this region, sports writer Lawrence Machado decided to turn the focus on 20 sporting greats that have come out of the area.

But what do our readers think? His research sparked a couple of healthy debates, such as who is the greatest Bulldog: Steve Mortimer or Terry Lamb. He might be nicknamed “Turvey” but we’ll claim the great Mortimer for this survey. And is East Hills Boys High our best sporting school?
