THEY are experts in their fields, whether that be sport, business, fashion, politics or the law. They are the people whose opinions and actions we value and watch with sometimes envy, sometimes disdain and disagreement.
The Manly Daily staff debated over who should be on the list and where they should rank.
We considered their positions as role models and/or decision makers, starting from position 20 through to position 1. Today we list number 5 on our list.
All 20 will be listed on our website, manlydaily.com.au, over coming days with your opportunity to agree, disagree or suggest others who should be on the list of the most influential people on the peninsula.
#5 Tim Worner: CEO of Seven West Media
Tim Worner, CEO of Seven West Media, has been running one of the biggest and most influential media companies in Australia for about three years.
He manages Australia’s largest diversified media business that was formed when West Australian Newspapers acquired the Seven Media Group.
Now, Mr Worner, who lives in Manly, has his hands on the levers of the Seven Network, The West Australian — the only statewide daily newspaper in Perth — as well as Pacific magazines and a joint venture with Yahoo Inc, Yahoo!7.
He reportedly drags in an annual salary of $2.6 million.
Seven West Media has a presence in most Australian homes with its three television channels — Seven, 7TWO and 7mate — and one of Australia’s two biggest magazine publishing companies with popular titles including Better Homes and Gardens, New Idea and That’s life!
Seven West Media will broadcast cricket and the Australian Open tennis this summer after Mr Worner was part of the negotiating team that won the rights, with Foxtel, to broadcast Test and limited over cricket from Channel 9 for six years in a record-breaking $450 million deal,
In late 2011 Mr Worner was appointed chief executive of Seven Network Television. He had been the network’s head of programming, coming off a year when CH7 won the national TV ratings every week.
He has head a long career in television, starting as a reporter with Seven News in Perth before becoming Head of Sport for Seven in Melbourne and then Head of Production for the Seven Network,
Mr Worner also helped shepherd the successful introduction of Seven’s new digital TV channels.
