THE future of a proposed eight-storey tower development in Leppington is uncertain, after the Sydney Western City Planning Panel questioned numerous aspects of the $102 million project.

The development includes two eight-storey towers totalling 360 apartments, as well as ground floor retail and commercial space.

The proposed development, designed by architecture firm Urban Link, is on Bringelly Rd, Leppington, and borders Leppington station.

Urban Link says the proposed development provides generous communal space.

At a recent Sydney Western City Planning Panel briefing, members discussed if the eight-storey height was appropriate for the Leppington location.

“The panel questions the justification for a breach of the height standard for this greenfield site, noting that the height limit would seem to suggest a maximum six-storey building was anticipated for this site,” minutes of the briefing stated.

The five-member panel also questioned the apartment mix of the proposal, saying it was “not obviously suitable”, with the proposed number of one-bedroom apartments only making up 11 per cent of the development.

The panel discussed a number of issues, including the development’s proposed height.

The location of the development, which is currently at the furthest point on the 2.4ha site away from Leppington station, was also questioned.

Members of the Sydney Western City Planning Panel include Camden Liberal Mayor Peter Sidgreaves and Camden Liberal Councillor Lara Symkowiak.

Cr Symkowiak was absent from the briefing.
