Thompson Health Care propose 240-bed aged care facility
A STATE-of-the-art aged care facility has been proposed for Oran Park, creating more than 300 jobs for the growing community.
A STATE-of-the-art aged care facility is being proposed for Oran Park, with the potential to create more than 300 jobs for the growing community.
One of the state’s leading aged care providers, Thompson Health Care, has revealed to the Macarthur Chronicle plans to develop a three-storey, 240-bed aged care facility in the centre of Oran Park.
The development, estimated to be worth up to $50 million, would be located next to the future Oran Park rail station.
Thompson Health Care owner Doug Thompson said he hoped construction would begin next year, pending approvals.
“We are hoping to start building next year,” he said. “We are just waiting for the subdivision to be registered so we can launch our development application with Camden Council.
“We are a lot different from other aged care facilities — apart from the level of care we provide, we are different in the way our homes are furnished and the way we design our homes.”
Mr Thompson said the facility would be Thompson Health Care’s first in the Macarthur region, with the site’s central location in Oran Park appealing to the family-owned company.
“The first reason (of why we identified Oran Park) was because the train line will be coming through there,” he said.
“It’s a wonderful site overlooking the school — very accessible to public transport and the Oran Park town centre.”
The facility will include a non-denominational chapel, two to three coffee shops, recreation areas, massage rooms and aromatherapy facilities.
Majority of the rooms would be single, private rooms and include a large private ensuite.
The proposed development follows the approval of a $53 million expansion of Oran Park’s Anglicare Chesalon retirement village, which will feature an 80-bed aged care home and 67 additional retirement villas.
