NARELLAN commuters may one day catch a train at a local underground station, with a draft site identified by Transport for NSW.
As part of the South West Rail Link Extension corridor, a two-track station would be located adjacent to Narellan Town Centre, on the corner of The Old Northern Rd and Camden Valley Way.
Access to the future station would be via Kirkham and Campbell streets.
Nineteen industrial and commercial properties will be directly affected by the future Narellan station, although Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson said the development presented “opportunities”.
“Rail is the catalyst for the next stage of the development in Narellan,” Mr Patterson said.
“Once the site is designated and a time frame is given, it can enable a very good conversation about where to from here (for Narellan).”
Transport for NSW’s Draft Strategic Assessment stated there were a number of reasons why the site was identified.
“The proposed future station location at Narellan is an optimal location as it is within walking distance of a thriving town centre, with good access to two major roads, having potential space for station and transport interchange facilities,” the report noted.
The exact route of the underground South West Rail Link Extension from Oran Park to Macarthur station is yet to be determined, with further studies required.
A future Oran Park station site has also been proposed, adjacent to Oran Park Podium.

The underground tunnel, between the proposed Oran Park station and existing Macarthur station, will be generally more than 30m deep.
