QUALITY, fresh seafood, light sauces, delicious salads – these are the flavours of summer on the menu at The Golden Ox restaurant.

For more than 40 years, the family-owned venue has been serving cuisine showcasing the best the region has to offer and in the warmer months, it’s seafood’s season to shine.

“The most popular at the moment is Mooloolaba whiting fillet. People are going crazy for that,” owner Nick Tzimas says.

Gold band snapper is also sought-after, served with ratatouille, pan fried lemon and artichoke desiree potato, lemon beurre blanc and caperberry salsa.

Head chef Peter Tzimas has created a Flavours by the Sea menu, featuring scallops, prawns, wild North Queensland barramundi and eye fillet steak with garlic prawns.

It’s hard to go past the hot and cold seafood platters, which come with salad and fruit. It’s the perfect combination for this time of year.

Nick says lighter dishes are good in summer when most people don’t feel like a heavy meal, and it’s the perfect season to share with those you love.

Bookings are essential.

WITH a reputation for “the best toasties in Margate”, amazing coffee and a vibe that makes you feel good about eating there, Industry and Co has quite a following.

The cafe, opened in 2017 by Redcliffe Opportunities for People’s Enhancement Association (ROPE), also serves quiches, sausage rolls, pizza bread, soup, muffins, brownies, slices, scones, waffles and more.

ROPE chief executive Wes Bleakley says the team has high standards, giving young people with a disability the chance to develop hospitality and customer service skills.

It has an industrial look, but a welcoming feel. They serve Aromas Chicago Dark coffee. The cafe is open Mondays from 8am-noon and other weekdays from 8am-2.30pm

It’s run by manager Sarah Stephens and assistant manager Jodi Rosenow, who are there five days a week.

“I wanted it to be West End in Margate, something a little bit funky and different,” Wes says.

“It’s a great place to grab a toastie, great for local businesses and great for coffee.”
