Gather and Feast, Caboolture
THE name of this Caboolture cafe, Gather and Feast, perfectly describes owner Candice Kiss’ goal when she opened the doors last year.
“I like to gather a community and feast on beautiful food. We have created a community here,” she says.
It’s a community in the literal and online sense, with an engaged Instagram audience resulting in customers through the door.
Candice has worked in hospitality since she was 15 years old and had a food truck specialising in vegan cuisine before opening her own cafe in March last year.
Vegan food and healthy alternatives feature heavily on the menu but there are also options for those seeking something more indulgent, with offerings including a cheeseburger eggs Benedict.
Candice makes everything onsite, except the bread, and thrives on an ever-changing menu and creating art on a plate.
“I like to make food look pretty and enticing,” she explains.
Candice likes to surprise customers and loves it when they thank her for what she has created — that happens a lot.
“I get a lot of thanks here,” she says.
Saturday is reinvention day when the team devises two specials which are a recreation of what you’ve once eaten.
The Golden Gaytime pancakes are a good example of one such dish.
“That’s the day for indulgence. It’s hard to find a seat on Saturdays,” Candice says.
Gather and Feast serves Botanica Organic free trade coffee.
It is open Monday to Friday from 6.30am-2.30pm; and Saturday from 7.30am-1pm.

Caboolture Sports Club, Morayfield
IF you think you know what’s on offer at Caboolture Sports Club executive chef Anthony Gavin says you might be surprised when you next pop in.
The club has been renovated with major changes to the dining areas, unveiled last month, and a revamped menu to complement the bright, fresh look.
“We’re trying to make it as fresh and innovative as possible — you’re going to a restaurant but it’s still in a club,” Anthony explains.
There are four dining areas — al a carte, bistro, laneway cafe and tempo lounge and bar.
Anthony says diners are pleasantly surprised by the standard of cuisine and the way it is served.
He’s worked his way up from being a casual employee to executive chef during the past 15 years and has seen plenty of change during that time.
The quality of cuisine has improved to match diners’ growing expectations.
Anthony says the club’s seafood and steak are popular and the entire kitchen team is involved in crafting the menu.
