Dining gems, places to go out in Brendale

Brendale may be known for its commercial and industrial hub, but it’s also home to a cafe that specialises in homemade treats and a popular microbrewery.

Brendale Brewing Company

WHEN Ryan and Elsie McCausland bought this microbrewery, tucked away in Brendale, five years ago, their aim was to create a relaxed and friendly venue offering the best beer and cider they could bottle.

They were inspired by bars they had seen overseas, which made their patrons feel comfortable, welcome and part of the furniture.

So, with plenty of hard work and a great team, they reckon they’ve created an “old-school bar” perfect for a drink after work, or a chilled Sunday afternoon.

“It’s like a home away from home,” Elsie says. “We always have the TV on and there’s a Nintendo 64 which brings back nostalgia.” There’s also a pool table, board games and darts. board. But don’t be fooled by the relaxed vibe, brewing the perfect beer is serious business.

They added a tap room three years ago and also have a lab for quality testing.

“We try to make the batches as perfect as we can,” she says.

There different are food trucks on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and on Thursday nights crowd favourite King of Wings is there. Earlier this year, the venue won a Forkies Eat & Drink award for Favourite Drinking Hole.

Brendale Brewing is open 2-10pm Wednesday to Saturday, and 1-7pm on Sunday

The Boiler Room, Brendale

THERE’S no substitute for quality homemade food, and that’s a philosophy that’s driven Sammy Gaffney for the past eight years.

The team at her cafe, The Boiler Room, makes everything onsite even the burger buns and it’s a difference she says her customers appreciate. “We get lots of feedback from customers and I think that’s why we’re so popular,” Sammy says.

In the heart of busy Brendale commercial and industrial estate, the licensed cafe offers workers good service and an alternative to deep fried food.

There’s cake and coffee, lasagnes, frittatas, salads, Turkish bread and wraps, salads and more.

Their special burger, which changes weekly, is popular. “Every week, we come up with something different. Customers like the variety and it gives us a chance to be creative,” Sammy says.

The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, Monday to Friday from 6am-3pm.
