Cloverlea Cottage, Mt Glorious

THERE’S no denying the view from Cloverlea Cottage is spectacular, but Peter and Helen Hempsall say it’s the food that keeps people coming back.

The couple bought the business about six years ago. “We decided to run away to the hills in search of the quiet life and run a cafe,” Helen says.

They love the community at Mount Glorious and know their regulars by name, and their coffee orders by heart.

“We want people to enjoy themselves and relax,” Peter says.

They make just about everything onsite. “It’s good quality, homestyle comfort food,” Helen says.

The licensed venue also hosts dinners once a month and wine dinners several times a year.

The venue is closed Monday and Tuesday, but open 10am-3pm Wednesday to Friday and 8.30am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday.

AM/PM — TAKE YOUR PICK

Mandy’s on the Mountain

MERCURE Clear Mountain Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy a bite to eat no matter what time of the day it is, with plenty of options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

Food and beverage manager Darren James is a qualified chef and has recently joined the team, bringing 27 years’ experience with him. A popular brunch trial on Mother’s Day convinced him to make it a permanent addition from June 23. “It was very popular with our views and relaxed atmosphere. It will be a good thing to come up on a Sunday and sit here as long as you want,” Darren says.

“It also gives the chefs a chance to create things and move away from the ala carte they normally do.”

The menu will offer everything from eggs Benedict to waffles and Atlantic salmon. It’s in addition to the new a la carte menu now available for lunch and dinner. Darren says they offer exceptional quality for a mid-range price.

Mandy’s on the Mountain is open every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with brunch on Sundays from 10.30am-2pm.
