A new year is bringing new changes to the Gympie region with millions of dollars in major projects waiting in the wings for approval by the council.
A proposed 350 lot campground at Amamoor and plans to open a 308-lot subdivision at the Southside with its own medical centre are only two of the large scale projects seeking to be given the green light in the new year.
These are 12 high profile developments which will reshape the region in 2023.
Southside mega-estate to house 850 people
The long-mooted Southside growth corridor is about to live up to its name with plans unveiled for a new residential estate complete with its own commercial centre.
Developer DRP Southside wants to open up its 308-lot Bellagrove Estate, planned to be built on 42ha between Groundwater and Lawson Road.
The first stage of the estate will transform 12ha of the land at Groundwater Rd into a miniature precinct including 15 new residential homes and four commercial buildings.
350 sites: Mega tourist park pitched for bush property
A brand-new tourist park is on the cards for the Gympie region which would transform the entry of the Mary Valley into a campers’ playground.
An application was lodged to the council on January 27 for a “tourist park and ancillary caretaker accommodation” at Amamoor, just 15 minutes out of Gympie, off Mary Valley Link Rd and Dobson Rd.
The 35.35ha property will offer 250 RV spots and 100 camping sites.
Multimillion-dollar development planned near Victory College
A new retail centre is looming with plans unveiled to open a new multimillion-dollar seven-day-a-week commercial hub near Victory College.
Developer Just Chillax Pty Ltd wants to build the centre on 4.2ha of mostly vacant land opposite Victory College.
Major facelift proposed for heritage grocery store
A popular decades-old grocery store in Imbil is about to get a major facelift with its owners revealing they want to bulldoze it and replace it with a new shop.
If approved, the new shop would open from 5.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 7am to 6pm on Sundays.

The Gympie region’s foothold in the Qld tourism market continues to grow with new plans to open a new campground in the Mary Valley not far from the site of the Mitchell Creek Rock n Blues Festival.
The land is located 23km southwest of Gympie city, and within 200m of the site which regularly hosts the Mitchell Creek Rock n Blues Festival.

Fitness group Fitstop has asked Gympie Regional Council for permission to open the doors of its newest gym in an empty Monkland showroom lodged between PETStock and Original Mattress Factory.
Developer’s big plans for busy business precinct near Macca’s
A popular string of food outlets near Gympie Central shopping centre will be torn down and replaced with a new fast-food outlet with a drive thru under a proposal lodged with the council.
The string of business addresses includes Aldi and Tramcars Bakery.
A request for a material change of use indicates the developers would like to do something significantly different at that site, traditionally a favourite with fast food outlets and restaurants.
Developer unveils plan for ‘unique’ new gym
An empty shop under underneath Oakvale Homes has been earmarked for a surprising new venture with plans to transform the space into a bungee fitness gym.
Bungee fitness is a “unique fitness experience” involving a bungee harness reducing 60 to 80 per cent body weight in order to fly through the air for a “moderate to high intensity” workout, the development application stated.

Mary Valley bus driver launches plan for new development
A Monkland couple has lodged an application to build a caravan park on a vacant block near Gympie.
Karabee bus driver Peter Knowles and cleaning business owner Kim Knowles submitted the application to convert the almost 1ha on Old Imbil Rd, to Gympie Regional Council on June 20, 2022.
Mr Knowles said the park would include 12 large sites to accommodate bigger caravans and buses.
