A new retail centre is looming on Gympie’s horizon with plans unveiled to open a new multimillion-dollar seven-day-a-week commercial hub near Victory College.
Developer Just Chillax Pty Ltd has asked Gympie Regional Council for approval to build the centre on 4.2ha of mostly vacant land opposite Victory College.
If approved, the new centre – called the Araluen Village Market – is proposed to be home to a string of retail and commercial outlets.

A supermarket, bottle shop, two specialty shops, a service station, a gym and a medical centre are among the businesses expected to call the block home.
The bottle shop and specialty stores are proposed to be open from 6am-9pm seven days a week, while the supermarket and service station will be open from 6am-10pm.
Health care services would be available from 8am-6pm and the gym is planned to be available 24 hours a day with security cards.
The 50-year-old home on the block would be demolished to make way for the project.
Two entrances will be built along Old Maryborough Rd, including a one-way driveway leading to the service station.

A third entry and exit will be built along Bonnick Rd which has long been planned to connect Old Maryborough Rd to Corella Rd.
Ninety-five parking spaces, 16 bicycle spaces and six motorbike spaces will be provided for customers.
Once finished, the centre will occupy about one third of the block.
The application says the remainder of the land may be developed for industrial uses or subdivided.
The land has been owned by Gympie Land Pty Ltd since April 2015, CoreLogic RP Data records show.
It sold for $420,500 at the time.
