A popular fitness chain with dozens of gyms across Australia’s east coast has locked its sights on Gympie.
Fitness group Fitstop has asked Gympie Regional Council for permission to open the doors of its newest gym in an empty Monkland showroom lodged between PETStock and Original Mattress Factory.
The building is located at the corner of Brisbane Rd and the Bruce Hwy.
Town planners Plan A, who have lodged the submission on Fitstop’s behalf, say the existing 47 parking spots will be enough to cater for the gym thanks to minimal overlap with the existing shops.
The gym is proposed to be open from 4am-8am and 4pm-7.30pm weekdays, and 6am-8am Saturday, meaning it’s open hours would only clash with those of other tenants for no longer than three hours.
A fourth shop at the building remains empty.
The company has five established at the Sunshine Coast, one at Hervey Bay, one at Bundaberg, and about three dozen across the greater Brisbane area.
It is the second gym proposal lodged with the council in as many months.
At the start of August Gritt ‘n’ Gravity’s Ashley Johnson wanted to open a bungee fitness centre underneath Oakvale Homes at the intersection of Cross St and the Bruce Hwy, on the north side of the city. bungee fitness centre
Bungee fitness involves hooking patrons into a bungee rig which supports up to 80 per cent of their body weight, allowing for aerodynamic exercises.
This application is still awaiting a decision by the council.
