Crossbench and Greens seal deal on workplace changes

David Marin-Guzman

Labor has done a deal to push through its third tranche of workplace laws, giving millions of workers the right to ignore their bosses’ after-hours calls and empowering casuals to switch to permanent jobs, following eleventh-hour backroom deals with the crossbench and the Greens.

Independent senator David Pocock confirmed late on Wednesday that he would support the government’s bill after negotiating more than 60 pages of amendments to make the laws simpler for business, which will be pushed through in a Senate vote on Thursday.
