Retail union in battle to delay penalty rate cuts
The retail workers' union is seeking to defer cuts to Sunday penalty rates due next month on the basis any financial burden to business will be offset by the delay in the minimum wage increase.
The Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) has told the workplace tribunal that because penalty rate cuts were meant to align with minimum wage increases to ameliorate the impact on workers, delaying this year's 1.75 per cent wage rise until February 1 for retail should also see a delay in penalty rate cuts.
